Cup team notes: A look at the upcoming NASCAR weekend
24
Jeff Gordon, Chevrolet
Team: Hendrick Motorsports
•This week: Gordon can go for broke at Bristol Motor Speedway, where he has five wins, 12 top-five finishes, 18 top-10s and five poles, because he already has clinched a spot in the 12-driver Chase for the Nextel Cup. He finished third there in March, the first race for the Car of Tomorrow. This is the first track where the new, boxier model will make a return appearance.
•Last week: Gordon finished 27th at Michigan International Speedway after his loose car came in contact with Matt Kenseth and Gordon spun out.
•Etc.: Gordon has led in 23 of his 29 Bristol races for 2,435 laps.
11
Denny Hamlin, Chevrolet
Team: Joe Gibbs Racing
•This week: Hamlin is the second driver to lock himself into the Chase, joining Gordon. Hamlin has one top-10 at Bristol and has led one of his three races there for 177 laps. He finished 14th at Bristol in March and was sixth in this race last year.
•Last week: Hamlin finished fifth.
•Etc.: With three races left before the cutoff for the Chase, Hamlin wants to keep it simple now that he is safely in the field. "You got to make sure you don't wreck race cars, that's for sure, because we don't want to get behind on getting these things ready for the Chase," he said.
2
Kurt Busch, Dodge
Team: Penske Racing
•This week: Busch is tied with Gordon for the most wins among active drivers at Bristol with five. But he was 29th in the race in March.
•Last week: Busch won for the second time in the last three races in another dominating performance, leading 92 of the final 100 laps at Michigan.
•Etc.: Busch has decided to call his winning car at Michigan "Roger" for car owner Roger Penske.
Others:
Matt Kenseth (No. 17 Ford, Roush Fenway Racing): Kenseth has won two of his last four races at Bristol. Those are his only two victories there, but he also has seven top-fives and nine top-10s in 15 career Cup starts. …Tony Stewart (No. 20 Chevrolet, Joe Gibbs Racing): Stewart has one win at Bristol, but that came in 2001. He has four top-fives and five top-10s in 17 starts. …Carl Edwards (No. 99 Ford, Roush Fenway Racing): Edwards has one top-five and two top-10s in six starts. …Jimmie Johnson (No. 48 Chevrolet, Hendrick Motorsports): The defending Cup champion still is looking for his first Cup win at Bristol, where he has two top-fives and six top-10s in 11 starts.

I've missed reading these and how nice it is to get facts going in. I use to write a blurp "welcome to" for a few years and man, did I love creating that. With alittle time between, may I add to yours? I thank you and mods/admins for the space.....-D
Since 1961, this track has always been a win-win for all parties involved in it. I'm talking both driver/team and fans who are luckey little angels and devils. It's a Salad Bowl - they can see you during yellow flag lapping (that must be entertaining for them). This Salad Bowl has the best of accoustics - The Roar of Great Thunder towards the heaven's above. As if saying "wake the dead, it's time to go racing!). Fans get the added bonus with seeing sheets of metal scrapping that create those awesome fire flies and fuel exhaust pipe poppin. I wonder how the tires are going to do...I always think fuel and stadegy when it's bristol. A mistake could cost you several laps, down. Pit stops entering/exiting - exciting!
I love watching this race. I have never been but hope always is there for all of us, someday.
MAKE A WISH - for me it would be right next to the three amigo's in the booth as they broadcasting because that's the best seat in the house! Very interesting for someone who enjoys the debate along with fun times while painting the picture to add to what we are already seeing. Theatrical - Respectful - Selling something you love comes easy....(wish made)
Somone on siriuis radio "nascar channel 128" asked if any driver had won back to back with different manufacturers. Well, the answer is yes!
1967 Mr. David Pearson drove his 67 Dodge to victory lane - $75,930.00
1968 Mr. David Pearson drove his 68 Ford to victory lane - $77,247.00
There is another one who did it and numerous times at Bristol baby. Talking both Food City and Sharpie 500's. The name is "Jaws" or if new to the sport of racing, aka; Mr. "DW" himself. Waltrip Buick's would see victory lane one year and the following year would be there in a Chevrolet. Someone may have to confirm this as my brains...well, I've seem to lost my marbles here recently and can't find them. It's the job...what I just can't say. But what I can say is this:
Be Safe, Have a Ball and let's go teams - "V"! Shake, Rattle and Roll it in there. Lady Luck be with you - Drive it like you want it, to be there it takes a Team. Heads Up!

BRISTOL, Tennessee (Ticker) - For the second time this season, Kasey Kahne will be starting from the front row at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Kahne, who started second during the March race here, lapped the 0.533-mile circuit in 16.016 seconds, clocking 119.805 miles per hour in his Dodge Avenger to capture the pole for Saturday night's NASCAR Nextel Cup Sharpie 500.
Friday's pole was the second of the season for Kahne and 14th of his career. He also started first at Las Vegas in March.
Despite starting on the outside of polesitter Jeff Gordon for the Food City 500 on March 25, Kahne wound up finishing a disappointing 19th here, three laps down.
Joining Kahne on the front row is the Dodge of rookie Juan Pablo Montoya, who posted a lap of 16.064 at 119.447 mph.
The Ford Fusions of Jamie McMurray and David Ragan comprise the second row. McMurray's lap of 16.103 seconds just nipped his Roush Fenway Racing teammate who crossed the line in 16.105.
The Toyota Camry of Dave Blaney turned in a lap of 16.110 and starts fifth.
The top Chevrolet Impala to qualify was that of reigning series champion Jimmie Johnson, who was ninth at 16.159.
Matt Kenseth, who won this race the past two seasons, rolls off 12th in his Ford after a qualifying effort of 16.174.
The Busch brothers will start side-by-side in the 10th row. Kurt Busch, who won the rain-delayed Michigan race on Tuesday, qualified 19th at 16.247. Meanwhile, little brother Kyle Busch, winner here in March during the inaugural Car of Tomorrow race, lapped the half-mile track in 16.251 and will start 20th.
Gordon, the series points leader, starts 18th in a Chevrolet after posting a lap of 16.237.
