I am so glad that your plans are coming together! Try Hotwire.com for the car rental. I got a car for a week for $207.00! It was the same for 5 days as it was for 7! Funny thing about car rentals, the closer it is to the date, the prices will vary, depending on the availability of cars in the area. You might want to reserve a car now under a no sign, no pay deal, and still shop around until you leave for the race! Just browse around without putting down any deposit or such. 
Get your room and tickets soon. Buy your tickets via the internet at the track. You can do that on the addy I gave you.
The FanView is very cool, here is a thread about it, and there is a pic of it in the first post. You can listen to any driver and the Crew Chief, the radio program from the race, or to the Nascar officials. You can also view video and get real time stats on all the cars.

Getting out of the parking lot after the race will be the biggest hassle you will have. So be sure to pack plenty of patience and maybe something to do or read for that. I can't blame you for wanting to drive! I would love to go to Italy and drive on the roads there too!
