Cool Skinner wins fifth consecutive NCTS pole

May 26, 2007

MANSFIELD, OHIO (TICKER) -- Mike Skinner apparently likes the view from the front.

Skinner posted the fastest speed in Friday night's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series qualifying session and will start from the pole Saturday in the Ohio 250 at Mansfield Motorsports Park.

It was the fifth pole this season and the series-record 37th career for Skinner, who clocked 109.877 miles per hour in a Toyota Tundra. The former circuit champion has started from the pole in each of the last five races.

The 49-year-old Skinner has parlayed his strong starting position into an excellent beginning to the 2007 campaign. He enters Saturday's 150-mile event first in the series standings, 85 points ahead of reigning champion Todd Bodine.

Joining Skinner on the front row Saturday is Rick Crawford, who qualified at 109.336 mph in a Ford F-150. An 11-year series veteran, Crawford registered his best starting position of the season.

Bodine will start third in a Toyota, followed by the Toyota of Johnny Benson and the Ford of Travis Kvapil. Defending race winner Ron Hornaday Jr. qualified ninth in a Chevrolet Silverado
