My own story is a bit different. I went to college wanting to be a film director. By the end of my first year I saw cooler stuff out there and really enjoyed my anthropology classes I took. So I went all the way with that, got a BA, went to Belize and Mexico for 3 months to do achaeology. Then I decided I didn't want to leave Orlando at the time (due to my boyfriend-future husband). So I got a bank job and worked for a year. Then my mom said I had better do something with my life, either go to grad school like my degree required or get a new career. So I did the hard one, got a new career. I went back to school got a 2nd BA in communication disorders and on August 2nd I will be the first in my family to get a masters degree. To work in Speech Language Pathology you must have your masters and be certified. I wouldn't trade my experiences for anything but ... while my friends are graduating and starting out with their life at age 23, I am 27 and hear by biological clock ticking, I don't own my own home and so on. I do feel like I lagged behind and if I done this career to begin with I think about how much $ I could have right now instead of being 27 and broke. But if you want to think of Speech Pathology as a career I'm not accepting less than $50k starting out
