This might not make a hell of a lot of sense but it occurred that about four or five years ago as I was watching the spring race that I just don't get excited about Martinsville. I probably should with the long history of the track and the banging and bumping you get there, but I just don't. I decided to watch the race as closely as I could and about half way through it was like a light went off, the action on the track only happens when someone makes a mistake. Sure it often times is a spectacular mistake that ends up with some beat up cars but to me it always seems that either the driver has to miss his mark before the car behind him can get by or a car has to mechanically give out. I'm not saying that this necessarily makes for bad racing, there have been some damn great finishes there and it's very rare to hear a driver that doesn't like the track. It's just as rare that I have found a fan that doesn't like the track either. I'm not saying that they should lose their races, I just, for reasons that aren't even completely clear to myself, don't care for the racing I see there. It might be a different story to watch a race in person there.
