4 hours to get 25 miles to your room, that is terrible, and not something I would want to do, either! Unreal!.

I am kinda-sorta planning to attend my very first race this coming season. I am really leaning towards the spring race in Atlanta (3-18-07), since it is within driving distance and one of my favorite tracks. Never having gone to a race before, I am not very sure of what I am planning at all. ~LOL~ I was thinking of buying a race package where basically you just show up and stuff like tickets/lodging/transportation to and from the track is already taken care of. I would love to avoid a 4 hour trip to the room, that you had to endure. Ideally, my hearts desire would be to rent an RV already set up in the infield. How cool would that be!!! My bones are getting older and I am not sure that I can take 3 days in a tent, like I use to. I am planning to kinda-sorta go big, by my standards.~LOL~ I am ball-parking $1,000 for a weekend for 3, my son, grandson and me. (This $1,000 would not include souvenir $$$. ~LOL~ It is also our birthdays month.<3)Do you think I can do this, degafan?

Anyone else who has any suggestions, opinions, or ideas, please jump in here and help mrsmopar out! I truly feel that we all can profit from this info, I know that ALL of our members are all interested in going to the races, too!

So I am very interested, indeed, to see what our members have to say in response to your thread! Thanks for the great subject!

I think the amount you are considering taking would cover it all. As you said "except for souveniers" anyway. We never take enough for that. When we went to Texas this past April I booked the motel in advance (of course) and it ran me for 4 days, 3 nights, somewhere in the neighborhood of $450.00, we spent about $200.00 for food. We bought lunch meat and stuff to take to the track like this to save us some bucks. The price of the food trackside is horrible. You will spend a bundle there if not careful. We also flew down and the cost for 4 of us was somewhere around $400.00. Rented a car and that cost us $200.00 Our tickets there were $600.00

It is much cheaper for dega. But as said we camp out for 3 or 4 days. but let me tell you we have some of the conveniences of home. We bought a big air mattress for sleeping and stack them two high. we also have a heater and a fan for days. coleman cookstoves and all the other basic camping needs. then the only money we are out is for souveniers, gas to get there, we always take our food and drinks. it costs much less and to me is quite honestly a lot more fun. you can absorb the atmosphere of all the fans and get to know some people for life. with us we have the same seats year to year and so we see pretty well the same people and made some very good friends this way. we are however hoping next year before going that instead of staying in the free camping area we are going to get in the reserved. only because we are taking our teenage daughter and she doesn't need to be in the free section. much more partying and things like this going on. dont' want to subject her to this yet. maybe later on. haha.

i do want to mention that if you buy a travel package that I would think that unless your motel is very close to the track that your transporation is still going to have just as long a trip getting there as we did. might be something to check into before booking it. i know we could have rode public transportation in texas but opted out since you had to be there at a certain time mornings and evenings to catch it. we didn't want to be on any certain set schedule.
