Alltel is locked in as the primary sponsor through 2009 I believe. This is something I did not know: the #12 Alltel and the #31 Cingular cars were "grandfathered" in when Nextel took over as the Cup sponsor from Winston. Seems that they don't want the other wireless companies out there as car sponsors.  |
yes they are grandfathered in.... nextel insisted on that... no other cell company can get in now, and if the company is purchased or renamed... it cannot return.. such as cingular... next year they are to be partof att? anyhow the 31 has to get a new sponsor since cingular is being bought out... at least that is what I read earlier this year...
