Didn't see this one coming
KERNERSVILLE, North Carolina (Ticker)—Jack Sprague has been released from Kevin Harvick Inc., the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team announced Monday.
A three-time NCTS champion, Sprague has struggled this season, recording just five top-five finishes in 20 starts. The 13-year veteran currently is eighth in the series points standings, 489 points behind leader Ron Hornaday Jr.
“The performance of the No. 2 team was not up to either Jack or KHI’s standards,” Harvick said. “My main goal now is to prepare the team to run for a championship in 2009.”
Harvick announced that he will replace Sprague in the No. 2 Chevrolet Silverado for the Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway.
“I am looking forward to getting behind the wheel in Martinsville,” Harvick said. “It should be a lot of fun.”
Sprague, 44, ranks second on the all-time NCTS list with 28 victories and 32 poles. He is the all-time series leader with 136 top-five finishes and 203 top-10s.
