Smile Terry Cook Picks Up Truck Ride

Wyler Racing officials announced Tuesday that veteran Terry Cook will drive the team's No. 06 Toyota in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2008, joining teammate Richard Johns. "Terry has been a staple in the Craftsman Truck Series over the years and brings a wealth of experience to our team," team owner Jeff Wyler said in a statement. Question Truck Rookie Of The Year Willie Allen Loses Ride

Willie Allen, the 2007 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) Rookie of the Year, will not return to the #13 ThorSport Racing truck for the 2008 NCTS season. ThorSport Racing has terminated their agreement with Allen for 2008. "We are currently looking for other opportunities for next season," explains Allen. "We had a successful year with ThorSport Racing but I’m hearing another driver is bringing in a substantial amount of money. I have a letter exercising ThorSport’s option on my contract for 2008, so I don’t know how this could happen. I hope that we can put something together with a team in one of NASCAR's top three divisions very soon." Allen finished his rookie season 15th in the overall points standings and added his third career Rookie of the Year title to his resume. Allen's career highlights include a 6th place Martinsville finish in his first ever NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race, a 6th place finish at Talladega in 2007 and a 2006 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Points Championship at the Music City Motorplex in Nashville. ...Daily Headlines

Smile Johns, Wyler Racing Announce Two-Year Deal

TruckSeries.com Report

Richard Johns won't be disappointed if there aren't many gifts for him under the tree this holiday season - not after securing a seat in the No. 60 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series entry for the 2008-2009 seasons late last week.

"They say dreams come true during the holidays, but this is way beyond anything I could have wished for this year," said Johns. "It's like when I got my first go kart as a kid. At first you can't believe it, then you can't wait to drive it."

Johns got the opportunity to wheel the Wyler-RacingToyota Tundra this season thanks to a solid NASCAR Nationwide Series campaign last year and a productive off-season that allowed the Lawrenceville, GA driver to bring sponsor MY HAVE FUN - America's Family Internet Portal "Competing in the Nationwide Series last season was a big boost to my career," said Johns, who piloted the No. 25 Team Rensi entry in 15 NNS events last season. "I learned more about racing in those 15 events than I did throughout the rest of my driving career.

"Then, we were able to make contact with Rick Beaman and his Technology Based Consulting group and they were extremely excited about going racing with the MY HAVE FUN - America's Family Internet Portal brand in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series," Johns continued. "That allowed us to network our deal with Wyler Racing and get on the fast track toward the 2008 season."

Johns has been on the fast track since competing in his first go kart race at age 9. After tours in the PASS and Southern All Stars Truck Series, Johns graduated to the Georgia Asphalt Series (GAS) and American Speed Association (ASA) Late Model ranks before breaking through into the Nationwide Series a year ago.

Meanwhile, Wyler Racing has been carving its own mark in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 2005. With Jack Sprague behind the wheel in 2006, the team won two events and finished fifth in the season-ending championship standings. Last year, the team opened the season with a bang winning at Daytona and finishing ninth in the points race.

"It's going to be different going from a veteran driver like Jack last year to a young, up and coming one like Richard this season," said Tom Buzze, General Manager at Wyler Racing. "We still have the same great team that won races last season and, if anything, we think we've strengthened our organization over the off season. We're looking forward to getting Richard in here to start working with our team and Toyota. I know he's excited about it too."

A brand of Technology Based Consulting, MY HAVE FUN - America's Family Internet Portal is one of several companies facilitated by the Lakeside AZ e-business concern. Founded in 1992, Technology Based Consulting has developed a global client base thanks to its comprehensive Internet services and resources. According to Beaman, the association with Johns, Wyler Racing and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, is the latest measure to direct Internet shoppers to MY HAVE FUN - America's Family Internet Portal [ and the rest of the company's client base.

"We're looking to gain market share and increase our home page users," stated Beaman, President of Technology Based Consulting. "Increasing market share in the Internet home page business will make us stronger and better able to compete against Lycos, Yahoo and the rest of them

"We chose to try to do this in NASCAR and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series because of the great fan following and television audiences it delivers. The Truck Series also fits nicely into our budget plans. Because of the television audience the Truck Series delivers, I can really stretch my budget dollar.

"Finally, with Richard Johns, we feel like he's a young, talented driver - a diamond that needs a little refinement," Beaman concluded. "We really believe Richard has the talent to be able to someday compete on the level where Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon are at now, the Sprint Cup level. Meanwhile, Wyler Racing has a good organization and concept and they have a future in that they want to race in the Sprint Cup Series. They also have Toyota on board and we fell like that's the future of NASCAR racing."

With a championship caliber team and a winning e-business marketing partner, Johns - a Mechanical Engineer with a degree from the Motorsports Engineering program at the University of North Carolina - Charlotte - is more than thankful this holiday season.

"I had always hoped I would get an opportunity to compete with a top-notch team, complete with a sponsor that could provide us the kind of support needed to compete all out," said Johns, a Raybestos Rookie of the Year candidate in the Truck Series this season. "With Wyler Racing, Toyota, and MY HAVE FUN - America's Family Internet Portal , I'm going to have that kind of opportunity in the Truck Series this year. There's no doubt I am always going to remember this holiday season as one of the best."

Joey Clanton and Zaxby's complete Roush Fenway's Truck series lineup

CONCORD, N.C. -- Roush Fenway Racing announced today that Joey Clanton will be part of its NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series line-up for 2008, along with sponsor Zaxby's. Clanton will pilot the No. 09 Zaxby's Ford F-150 for the entire truck series season.

Clanton, the 2002 ASA champion, joins Roush Fenway Racing after a season in the Craftsman Truck Series with Wood Brothers/JTG Racing. There Clanton earned five top-10 finishes in 16 starts.

"We are pleased to have Joey and Zaxby's join our team," said Jack Roush. "We have a strong line-up in the Craftsman Truck Series for 2008 with Erik Darnell and rookie Colin Braun. Joey is a proven champion in the ASA Series and has a lot to offer young drivers like Erik and Colin as a teammate, and a competitor. I expect to see the No. 09 Zaxby's Ford F-150 running up front this season."

"I am really thrilled about this opportunity with Zaxby's and Roush Fenway Racing," said Clanton. "Jack Roush will give me the equipment and the resources I need to win races and that is what I intend to accomplish this year - winning races. I can't wait to get to Daytona and start testing next month."

"We are pleased to have Joey representing our brand, as well as welcoming Roush Fenway Racing into the Zaxby's family," said Zaxby's co-founder/CFO Tony Townley.

The 2008 season kicks off Friday, February 15 at Daytona International Speedway. Roush Fenway Racing starts the season with 48 wins in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, the most of any team in the series.

About Zaxby's

Zaxby's provides fresh, prepared-at-order chicken fingers, Buffalo wings, sandwiches, salads and more in a fun, relaxing atmosphere. A pioneer of the quick-casual format, Zaxby's provides services and amenities that fall somewhere between fast food and a sit-down restaurant.

TRUCKIN'
Truck Testing Gets Underway at Daytona
CSD Staff, January 11

(Daytona Beach Fla.)-Ron Hornaday Jr. had 55 days to savor his third NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship but Friday it’s back to work for the Kevin Harvick Inc. No. 33 Chevrolet team along with Hornaday’s fellow competitors.

The 2008 NASCAR Craftsman Truck’s 14th campaign “unofficially” begins with NASCAR Preseason Thunder at Daytona. Three days of testing – Friday through Sunday – will lay the groundwork for the Feb. 15 Chevrolet Silverado 250, first on the year’s schedule of 25 races.

The series opens its season at the 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway for the eighth consecutive year. The track, which has yet to see a repeat series winner, celebrates its 50th Daytona 500 on Feb. 17 while NASCAR heralds its 60th season.

Last year’s top five finishing teams return with driver and crew chief combinations intact. Hornaday, who became just the third driver to win a championship without the holding the lead entering the season’s final race, will have a fulltime teammate for the first time in his 10 seasons in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

Three-time champion Jack Sprague joins Hornaday to pair two of the series’ iconic names under one banner.

“I have raced against Jack for many years,” said Hornaday. “He is a very intense driver and having him as a teammate is a big plus for the whole KHI team.

“Our truck program was strong last year but now running two fulltime teams and having the extra support will make it that much stronger.”

Rick Ren, Hornaday’s crew chief, agreed. “We had a great year last year by being consistent,” said Ren. “Another thing is team chemistry. Everybody has to be on the same page and work together.”

Ernie Cope, a former series driver, will oversee Sprague’s Chevrolet.

KHI’s two drivers have won a combined six championships, 61 races, 45 poles and more than $12 million. Sprague won last year’s Chevrolet Silverado 250 in a three-wide finish over Johnny Benson and Travis Kvapil.

Benson finished third in the 2007 standings with four victories and returns with Bill Davis Racing teammate Mike Skinner. Skinner was the season runner up and bids to improve on a five-win, 11-pole campaign during which the 1995 champion led the standings a record 18 times.

Also ready to challenge for this year’s crown is 2006 champion Todd Bodine and Rick Crawford (No. 14 Circle Bar Racing Ford). Bodine finished fourth in 2007 standings with a pair of victories. Crawford grabbed the final spot in the top five with a third-place finish in the season-ending Ford 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway .
