First, let me clear up something. Dale Jr. is my least favorite driver. Now that that's over with, here are my thoughts.
No offense, but Jr. isn't the greatest driver of all time. Tony Jr. does a pretty good job. Sometimes calls on pit road can make you look like the greatest person ever, or the dumbest. There was one year that Dale Jr. didn't have him as crew chief and he finished around 20th in points. This season he's got the best stuff in the world and is in 2nd. Give Tony Jr. some credit, and also realize that Dale Jr. isn't perfect either. 2nd place in points is pretty dang good. Jr. is always on the radio upset and disagreeing with Tony Jr. about the calls, or complaining about his car. That might actually be a good thing, because he is comfortable with Tony Jr. as the chief, and if a new one came in I'm sure he wouldn't be as vocal since he is supposedly "shy" and wouldn't communicate effectively, just like the year when Tony Jr. wasn't his crew chief. Be thankful that Tony Jr. is there, because I think there is a comfort factor there that Jr. wouldn't have with any other crew chief.
Jr's ONLY win this year came on a strategy call by Tony Jr., and that day everyone loved him, but it seems like the first time Jr. has a not-so-good finish they want him to be fired. Whatever they are doing is pretty good though, a lot of drivers would love to be 2nd in points right now.
The worst thing about Tony Jr. is that he is vunerable to become another excuse for Jr. fans to explain why Jr. doesn't/isn't winning.
