Heat takes its toll on worn-out Hamlin
CSD Staff, April 7
Denny Hamlin's postrace interview session on pit road at Texas Motor Speedway lasted just 41 seconds before he nearly passed out Sunday.
Hamlin was held on pit road as one of the top five finishers and faced the wall while his public relations representative, put cold, wet towels around his neck. Hamlin drank some sports drink to try to rehydrate, then turned to face reporters.
He made it through three questions. As he was answering the third, about how he wasn't feeling well, his voice faded out and he started wobbling. He took a cautious step backward, and was led to an arriving golf cart to take him to the infield care center. He was given intravenous fluid, iced down and told to rest.
"I'm feeling much better now," Hamlin said at the infield care center. "It really hit me when I got out of the car. I was dizzy and just needed to sit down."
