Kinda makes me ashamed of being from Alabama....HOWEVER, I did read in the Birmingham News that there were about 10 people being "detained" because of the can throwing...That seems to be about 10% of the perpertrators, according to the paper...They would not say just exactly what being detained was, but maybe it scared a little sense into those people...
One writer's opinion went on to say that the TSS would probably have to ban cans all together, and just sell drinks out of a cup....How sad that a few bad grapes ruined the whole bunch!!!!!

"On one hand I want to jump up and down, celebrating getting No. 77 at Talladega, where three-quarters of the grandstand is pulling against us. On the other side, I respected Dale so much, I learned so much from him, knowing today would have been his birthday and knowing how many people up there would have loved to have seen Dale Earnhardt Jr. win this race, it's tough," he said.
"I certainly didn't want to start a riot today. Hopefully, nobody got injured with what happened today. I wanted to break the record, and it feels awesome to do it. It's cool, but why did it have to happen at Talladega? I go back and forth."
This is the sort of stuff that makes me gain respect for JEff. He's clearly a fan of the sport and it's heritage. I won't cheer for him to win(although between him and a BUsch brother i'd cheer for JEff ), but you really have to respect him.
I wish the end of race would of been more exciting. I have to agree with everyone else on this topic. I always like Jr. and I am glad he told the fans not to throw thing, even though they did not listen. What can you do??Those people are LOSERS. All I can say is "KEEP WINNING JEFF!"
Good for Jeff but he won on another case of nascar throwing a caution to late another example of that would be June 2004 Kasey Kahne leading by a long ways McMurry blows up over 3/4 of a lap ahead like big time blow up smoke everywhere no caution Kahne hits the turn leading hits oil backs in the fence Nascar put out no caution so what im saying from this is mcmurry should have won dega.

IMHO That caution had very little to do with Jeff winning the race at Dega! Had the caution not come out, Jeff still would've caught and passed McMurray.
Just because Nascar might have goofed up back in 2004, do you think they should do it like that every race? You just never have anything postitve to say in any thread it would seem! Do you enjoy all those negative vibes?
Congrats to Jeff Gordon and to all his fans here that are members of this community! The throwing of anything onto the track is so stupid! That just shows us all how ugly anger looks!

I agree with you Jane. I have heard many people say (including mrsmopar) that you will never see Jeff at the track, but I have to wonder. If I was him and had to deal with them kind of people I would be like that too. His spotter needed security for cripes sake!!! Seems a shame that there is that much hate in a sport, doesn't teach kids very well does it?
And I agree with 24handrick25, Dale Jr is a class act, and shouldn't be judged by his fans, I didn't really like Jr because of his fans, but that isn't fair of me. Jr is conducting himself so great with all that is going on with him and his team, I admire that.
jeff don't sign autographs.... he got taken advantage of once and cannot deal with the fans ... so , while I agree with why he won't make himself available to the fans, it also makes him unapproachable ...and therefore not likeable... He told a story about a boy asking for an autograph, was being pushed in a wheelchair and after he was granted the autograph ... the kid produced a whole stack and asked him to sign them... so he did then the guy pushing him gave the kid $100 bucks and he jumped out of the wheelchair and ran off... the guy was selling the autographs... since then he tends to not give autographs... will alienate you from your fan base.... I understand you hate to be taken advantage of....
