Observations | Talladega finish has Jeff Gordon reconsidering his favorite race win

Some observations from David Poole of The Charlotte Observer and ThatsRacin.com:
Jeff Gordon said Thursday he might have to change the answer he usually gives when he’s asked to name his most meaningful Nextel Cup win. He’s always said the inaugural Brickyard 400 in 1994, because he’d lived in Indiana for several years before coming to stock cars. But now, he might have to say Sunday’s UAW Ford 500 at Talladega. “I would have to say that with the move on the last lap and having Ella (his daughter) in victory lane, that’s at least one my most meaningful wins,” Gordon said.
Some people may find it humorous a Congressional committee recommended that four staffers being sent to two NASCAR races get immunizations for things like hepatitis and diphtheria. That’s not how I see it. Let’s say the same thing had happened, but instead of a race those staffers were being sent to a large gathering of any people of a certain race or ethnicity? Would anybody be laughing? I seriously doubt it. –
“It’s like taping your ankles to go to the mailbox. This is not some third- or fourth-world country.” – Lowe’s Motor Speedway H.A. “Humpy” Wheeler, responding to a story that aides to a Congressional committee were told to get immunized before attending races here and at Talladega.
