Jimmie Kenneth Johnson is currently racing in the sprint cup series in NASCAR. Johnson, who was born on September 17, 1975 (would make him 32) in El Cajon California, is currently driving the #48 Lowes Cheverlet for team Hendrick Motorsports. Johson is a 2 time Cup champion, and is currently the deffending cup champion for the 2008 season. He began his racing career in the Busch series in the 1999 although he only drove 3 races. The next year, he continued to race the Busch series driving for Herzog Motorsports and finishing 10th in the points and 3rd in the rookie of the year standings. The next year, he won his only Busch series win at chicagland speedway. During the 2000 season though, Johnson was left in a tough spot in which his team lost their sponsor, and he was forced to look for other possibilities. And after looking, he goes to non other the Jeff Gordon for help, and later, in 2002, was told that he would be going to hendrick motorsports. IN his 2002 year in NNC, he would become the first rookie to sweep both races at dover speedway. He was also the first rookie to ever lead the points standings. Throughout his years, he is still the only driver to finish top 5 in his first 5 years of the NNC. His to championships came in 2006 & 2007. Johnson is ALSO the first driver to win the Daytona 500, Allstate 400 at the brickyard, Aarons 499, AND the NNC championship all in the same year. And in 2007, he tied the record by winning 4 races in a row, only to share it with his current teammate, Jeff Gordon.
