Driver Could Face Jail Time
CSD Staff,November 18
Driver Kasey Kahne is being investigated after an incident Friday at Homestead-Miami Speedway that had the Evernham Motorsports star in handcuffs and now facing up to a third degree felony charge of simple battery.
The ruckus started after the final Busch series practice when Kahne with his brother Kale in tow headed to the drivers motorhome lot. After an incident earlier in the day when several individuals had entered the highly secure area without the proper credentials, security guards had been instructed to scrutinize every person trying to enter the lot. Friday night when Kahne, dressed in his drivers suit, couldn’t provide the proper credential, the guard refused to allow him entry. According to police, Kahne then attempted to go around the guard.
As to whether Kahne actually bumped or even shoved the guard, is still in question. The result however had the guard on the ground and Kahne briefly handcuffed.
According to police the security guard complained of a discomfort in his chest and was checked by the infield care center for an elevated blood pressure.
While the investigation is continuing; and although very unlikely, Kahne could be charged with misdemeanor simple battery, which under Florida law carries a maximum penalty of 1 year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
However under a law enacted in 2005 by the State of Florida, a battery charge involving a "licensed security officer," can be upgraded to a third degree felony. A third degree felony in Florida can carry a maximum of five years in jail.
How ridiculous!! He is in drivers suit and they put him in handcuffs? The security gaurd must not have been a race fan!
Then again maybe Kasey Kahne had an attitude, you can't just push your way into some areas on the infield. I can see that where he was going into would be a secure area, for the protection of the drivers and their families. Maybe he shouldn't have left home without his credentials!
As for the guard, maybe he needs to seek other employment that isn't so stressful.

WOW!!! Kasey Kahne in handcuffs, never thought I'd hear that. Well if he's gonna be the new face of bud he better keep this up for sales...lol.
It seems a little fishy though, Maybe the guard just had something against Kahne. I don't see why Kasey would push past him if he wasn't a loud past anyways.

He won't go to jail. "IF" the guy presses charges, which seriously he's a dumb ass if he does, then Kasey will get a fine and some community service or something like that. He pushed past the guy because he had to get changed to go to an appearence somewhere. They just need to both come out and say sorry I over reacted it was a big misunderstanding. A security guard with real health issues probably shouldn't be there anyways. What if some psycho came in with a gun and tried to grab a driver or something, how would that guy react then? Track security is kinda important, lots of crazy drunk folk in the infield.

if you lose your credentials the security guards have the responsibility to keep you out... sorry but the kid should have been more responsible with his stuff.. and battery is battery... makes no difference who ya are... kasey is not that special..and if that is how budweiser wishes to be represented, guess i will go to straight jack! no bud for E... Brett bodine had his credentials pulled when he was having issues with his x wife... chasing him around the track! did I say i was giving up bud? nah won't go that far! lol was the guard being a prick? maybe, but that is what he is being paid to do, with his BP issues he can't get a job as a real prick..errr cop,,, so rent a cop is all he can get... heck I'd take a rent a cop job to be at the track everyweek... beats watching abc/espn screw up the races! he is a person, if you or I shoved our way past a security guard we'd be in jail no questions asked... face it he was stupid... and he needs to understand the limits of his fame... been hanging around paris too much, as honcho said... better not drop the soap! lol I am sure he could have gone back and got his creds replaced but they chose to make a scene, and he should pay for it.
