--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A | A | A An accident south of Eureka late Friday has claimed the life of a 15 year-old boy. The crash also seriously injured the four friends who were traveling with him.

It happened on P Road just south of 90th Street, according to Greenwood County Sheriff Mark Kenneson.

"We can tell by the marks in the gravel that the vehicle swerved to the east side of the road and then swerved to the other side," Kenneson says. "Then the rear tires left the roadway and the vehicle flipped at least three times."

The location of the accident is about five miles south of Eureka on a heavily traveled county road that is covered with gravel. The vehicle came to rest of its top.

Kenneson says all of the kids are 15-16 years-old, but their names are not being released at this time. One was deceased on the scene while the other four were transported to Greenwood County Hospital. All were later flown to Wichita by helicopter.

One of the teens mentioned that they swerved because of an oncoming car at the top of a hill, Kenneson says. Therefore, he is asking anyone who might have been driving along P Road south of Eureka around midnight Friday night to call the sheriff's department at 620-583-5568.

The kids were traveling in a black Toyota 4-runner.

**not mentioned is that another boy died later in the hospital after a attempted surgery to save him.

It's always sad to hear stories like this. Do I have the answers on how to stop it? No! It's a shame to see such young lives ruined by such foolishness.

My sympathies to the familys and friends effected.
