I think that DW (Darrell Waltrip) haveing his hands in Toyota probly had alot to do with thier rocketing sales. I think they have always been a great company, but with a sponsor like NASCAR and their affiliates promoting you...You are bound to become #1!

BTW: HI, I am Teresa nice to meet you............
Nice to meet you too, but I don't think Darrell really had much to do with their sales because they were the second largest automaker in the world long before they ever mentioned coming to Nascar. The reason I asked this question is because I am curious as too why the people, who are so anti-Toyota, are that way? Just picking people's brains a bit. If people catch on to this like I hoping then I will give my own opinion.
It's ok, your not an idiot! LOL Toyota actually opened it's first U.S. dealership in 1967. They have been here a lot longer than people think, but their cars didn't really start to catch on until the late '70's. They pretty much stayed under the radar until they really started to chew into GM, Ford and Dodge's share of the market. After that they either had to back down and stay under the radar or open it up and go for the throat! I think we can see what they chose to do. I work for a Toyota, Buick and GMC dealership and have owned just about every make of car at one time or another. Don't get me wrong, I am only 33, so I am not as old as it may sound.LOL I will give you something to think about though, for every GM car or truck we sell, we sell 5 Toyota's! Toyota is the number 1 car maker in the country after recently passing GM who produces 9 different makes, although they are about to sell off a couple. If you ever have a question just ask.
Maybe it's obvious to say, but I think one reason is that they WANTED it. Toyota has been American-izing itself for years. I'm sure you've seen the commercials where they boast of their factories in the US. Depending on how you look at it, they're "more American" than GM.
And they also build good cars in general. My only question is why Honda hasn't followed.

Why should Honda follow they got the Champ car field covered! Every car in the Indy 500 field was powered by Honda powerplants this year. No one considered it "American-izing" until the fact that the Big 3 were building cars outside of the U.S. became common knowledge! They simply took advantage of their bad business decisions and now we are blaming them for doing what anyone would have done. It's not their fault that the Big 3 had a lack of quality, a lack of vision and a greedy union to make concessions with. They have earned their spot and the American people are the one's responsible for putting them in that position!

Good point about CART/Champ Car. But it's still not as big a deal as NASCAR. Big fish in a little pond.
I agree with you about the Big 3. Their problems have nothing to do with Toyota, and Toyota deserves all the recognition they get.
I love my toyota.. almost 22 years old and still running strong with 236K miles. So maybe that's why, you make a good vehicle... you're bound to have good sales.
