AMEN!! I agree 150%

What a crock. We Canadians would not put up with that.
Maybe you should start asking for interest on the money that they refund you, as it is your money that they have had in their banks and collected interest on!!

Well actually we have the option to do just that. We can claim more exemptions which in turn will take less out of our paychecks. Most people can't save money anyway, so they bank on the tax return each year. If I could save I would do exactly that and invest

Yeah its weird considering the US was founded basically b/c of a dispute over taxes But the last time we seriously disagreed over our taxes George Washington put down the Whiskey Rebellion in 1794

For the sake of clarity, the "Tax Refund" that we are all expecting in the middle of this year (the $600 + 300 for kids and all, that one) is not technically a refund. It is built into the 2008 tax code and it is an advanced check. You will have to claim it as income on your 2008 tax return.

And you are NOT double taxed on your state tax refund if you do your taxes correctly. Your state taxes are deductible on your Federal return and so when you get some of that tax money back, you owe the taxes on it because you deducted it in the first place.

Gosh, all this tax talk reminds me why I would love to see the Fair or Flat taxes put in place.. PLEASE!!!

OK so here are some big ideas. Get tougher on welfare. I get sick and sick and tired of going to the grocry store with my hard earned paycheck near the first of everymonth and waiting behind someone with foodstamps eating better than I do on my frickin dime.....Some of them deserve the money they are legitimatly disabled. But no joke 2 weeks ago I was in the store planning meals depending on the stores deals my budget and coupons when this woman with two kids in tow passes me with 2 carts full of food. Steaks, seafood, cake, icecream ect.....We end up behind each other in checkout and her liitle one asks "mommy how much do we have" her mother replied well, about 250 but my they just incresed them to 300 so we will have plenty. An elderly woman behind me gasped I turned around to see a loaf of bread, 2 cans of tuna, geneeric oatmeal, milk and eggs. She said to me this is about 10 dollars and my food budget for the week....What is wrong with that picture. There are so many things the goverment could be and should be doing. I have to take a random drug test for work make welfare recipiants take one too. How about making them prove (like the elderly that have givin years of work) that they deserve a hand. Limit food stamps to the essentials. Get tougher on dead beat dads (and moms). I just get my panties all knotted up to know that thousands of people go hungry every night. I feel sorry for the new president. He has got his work cut out for him....or her

Sorry smoke couldn't resist!!

But I agree with you. Welfare is supposed to be a safety net, not a way of life.

Years ago our provincial government started to crackdown on the welfare recipients by slashing their benefits, amazingly the good majority of them found a job or jobs.

Here are some clips from an article I found.

"Welfare Minister David Tsoubouchi recently supervised the 22% cut in welfare
payments promised by the PCs in their Common Sense Revolution,"

"Mr. Tsubouchi has overseen a decline of 120,000 welfare recipients, in eight
months, representing a saving of over $1 billion a year"

"Some critics, however, have suggested that some of them have begun to work at
jobs that perhaps did not look as appealing when their welfare cheques were
about 40% above the national average."
