How is it possible that something so utterly boring, is appealing to so many people? I always rant on about how I dont like the "sport" of NASCAR, and my redneck pals told me to actually sit down and watch a race and I'll like it, but it was just brutal trying to sit through a race.
I know it takes skill to drive the cars and to build the engines, but it's just so lame to watch. Turn left, turn left, turn left....on and on and on. Nowadays it's just one big commercial watching this stuff, and the drivers all seem overweight or old...aside from a few here and there.
Yeah they go fast for a long time and it takes lots of endurance, but for the love of god why can't they improve on the cars a bit and add more tracks like Laguna Seca, Mid-Ohio, or Road Atlanta...it would be so much better.
Now Formula 1, there's a real sport. Precision driving, precision cars, extremely advanced aerodynamics and engine development. Millions of dollars spent on making these cars perfect, and millions of dollars spent on picking the world's best drivers. Did you know that when driving a Formula 1 car at full throttle, the deaccelerating force of simply letting go of the throttle is equivalent to the full braking force of a NASCAR car? Crazy huh?
Michael Schumacher, the greatest driver off all time. Seven world championships, 91 Grand Prix victories, pulls in 80 million dollars a year....the numbers are staggering. Sad thing is though, you folks will never know the greatness of such a driver and such a sport because you can't get over endlessly turning left. There is a reason that only one American driver exists in F1 at the current time, sadly they couldn't find anyone else worthy of the incredible abilities of an F1 car. I root for Scott Speed just because he is an American....but alas he sucks. Jeff Gordon did some testing in an F1 car, while some other driver from F1...not sure who...drove his car. Jeff actually did alright that day, he mentioned considering a move to F1 with proper training and the right team...what a great day that would be if he made the move and actually accelled at the sport. In case anyone decides to say that NASCAR is a more difficult type of racing, Mr. Gordon himself said "Driving the F1 car was unlike anything I ever experienced in NASCAR. The forces exerted on the driver, and the driving abilities required are just off the charts."
Wouldn't it be exciting to see Scuderia Ferrari, the most legendary and accomplished racing company in history, enter NASCAR? Even BMW or Mercedes for that matter, it would be an instant domination over the American brands. That would have a few NASCAR faithfuls upset though I assume. Imagine the reaction from the local bar or wherever people watch NASCAR if a man named Kimi Raikonnen, Jensen Button, or Juan Manuel Fangio won a few races in the NASCAR?
I would like to here a few sincere and honest responses from some of the knowledgable folks here on the forum. Please no ignorant comments or uneducated responses, I'm just trying to get into the minds of the die hard fans of America's favorite racing. Well, your favorite racing anyway. Thank you.

F1.. I love that.. I love Indy. I like all types of racing. Now Nascar can get boring.. if your at the race and its green all the time and the leader has like a 2 + second lead... but the strategy is what keeps me watching.. I like the 2,4, no tires deal.. adjustments.. how close they can run and how little bit you can be off and get lapped... if you seriously take in what they have to do to get the cars to run right.. its a lot.. so its not all about left turns.. its about the set up of your car and how you get it down every week to try to win the championship.. plus there are so many races during the season that one must be so consistant like matt kenseth in 2003 (2 wins) to win a championship..... and not everyone is a redneck.. im certantly not.. i dont listen to country music.. i live near the city.. and i dont drive a truck ..

a man by the name of Juan Pablo Montoya.. an F1 driver.. is going to nascar..sounds like something u wanted... also BMW and Mercedes wouldn't dominate.. its not bring your biggest motor and it will be alright.. they all are generally similar in power.. although BMW and Mercedes make good cars.. a nascar is really not a "stock" car

Thanks a lot for the response. Montoya just came from F1 earlier this year I believe, so I'm curious to see how he will do in NASCAR. He wasn't the best driver, but descent nonetheless. When I said that Mercedes and those guys would do well in NASCAR, I didn't mean because they could bring a big powerful engine, but because the Germans engineering and attention to detail are second to none. The Germans are just so precise and perfect with their engineering...it's scary. The mentality they use on thier production cars would carry over to NASCAR...if this ever happened obviously. That's why Audi and the other krauts seem to dominate at any type of racing they enter...unless it's F1...then that's Ferrari all the way.
I see your point on why you enjoy the strategy and tiny adjustments they must make, but why can't they add more exciting tracks? Or even stop calling the cars a Ford Taurus, Monte Carlo, or whatever they are? That's just silly, especially when they have the painted on headlights and such.
So you're really not a redneck and you like NASCAR? That's interesting. I can honestly say I have never met...in person...someone like yourself. Maybe I just happen to notice the rednecks due to the hideous team appearal, or the bumper stickers on the car. The other fans go stealth, like yourself.
I was just thinking since you commented on indy racing. Perfect example. The cars are very similar to Formula One cars, not quite as amazing, fast, or expensive to create, but similar. Yet, with such a similar type of racing...I find it dreadfully boring due to the round, and round, and round they do. This doesn't put you to sleep?

honestly.. most people on here would be frustrated at someone coming in saying nascar is boring but i figured i'd write back and explain about it... the point about all nascar fans being rednecks is just you being ignorant.. look around you.. not everyone is a redneck who loves nascar, and im not "incognito"...the cars are supposed to look like the "stock road" cars their not, but its all about promoting the Chevy Monte Carlo and such, i wish they didn't try to make them look so real.. but with the Car of Tomorrow, they all are much more similar in shape and such...
and the point about why this doesn't put me to sleep.. is simply put... I like NASCAR. I told you why I liked NASCAR so if you are still asking this question please read my other response about why I like it. I think that just about covers it all

I wouldn't come here to start an argument at all. I'm the moderator of a very large forum myself so I understand. I just enjoy an exciting intelligent automotive debate/conversation. If you can't enjoy debating pointless car opinions, than you aren't a true enthusiast...it's all in good fun. I just enjoy hearing the perspective of people who enjoy a different sort of racing, one that I can't see any excitment in.
Ok, your first and last post don't really seem as if you were trying to start an argument, but why in the world would you state "So you're really not a redneck and you like NASCAR? That's interesting. I can honestly say I have never met...in person...someone like yourself." That's equivalent to me going to some rap music message board and saying "you're really not ghetto and you like rap music? That's interesting. I've honestly never met someone like yourself." I'd be willing to bet that wouldn't go over too well.

Which forum is that? Debating is fine but coming here and talking down to our members is not cool.

Ok. First off, you said this in a respectful tone. But, why would you come on a NASCAR forum, which it seems to me you dislike NASCAR, and say stuff about it? If you don't like a certain sport, don't come on forums that represent NASCAR, a sport that I want to work in someday. Im glad you mentioned Jeff Gordon. Jeff could completely dominate F1 because of the fact F1 races on Road Courses, and when you are on a Road Course, Jeff Gordon is always a contender. If its utterly boring to you, then do not come on NASCAR forums and whine about NASCAR and how boring it is, because some people like me like the sport. Again, I am not intending to get in a argument with you, but why come on a NASCAR forum and say its utterly boring? Go say that with your fellow buddies at a F1 forum.
