Truex Looks to Maintain Momentum in Vegas
DMF Communications For Dale Earnhardt, Inc., Press Release
Mooresville, NC (Feb. 26, 2008) – After moving up to 12th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup point standings, Martin Truex Jr. and the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops Team look to maintain their momentum going into this weekend’s UAW-Dodge 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
“We really need to have a good run this weekend,” said Truex, who finished sixth last weekend at California Speedway. “Even though it’s still early in the season, you have to get a high level of consistency established as soon as possible. This points system rewards consistency and one or two bad races could hurt your chances of making the Chase.
Four of the next 10 points-paying races on the NASCAR schedule are on tracks that are 1.5 miles in size.
“Vegas is an important race because it’s a 1.5-mile track and that part of your program has to be good. There are a ton of races on tracks that size – places like Charlotte, Texas and Atlanta. It’s important that your car performs well on these tracks because you’ve got so many races on them. If you’re having a problem on tracks like Vegas, you’re going to be in trouble.
“Our test in Vegas last month went pretty well, so I think we’ll be pretty good. Bono (crew chief Kevin Manion) and the guys are great about taking what we learn at tests and using that info to make us better in the race.”
The UAW-Dodge 400 will be broadcast live on FOX this Sunday beginning at 3:30 pm ET.
