Not to say the Rooster cant drive, but I agree with you. I really dont think any past driver that hasnt been in these new cars can jump in one and run well enough soon enough ( remember you only get 5 gimmes at the begining of the season IF you have a top 35 car number ) things have changed too much. It needs to be a current COT ready driver or a REALLY OUTSTANDING young Nationwide/ARCA driver that can get up to speed quickly. Anybody know one???

Lil more info about whats going on

Richard Childress originally planned to release all its details (driver, crew chief, paint job, etc.) about the No. 33 car in July, but has yet to do so.

Jeff Burtons comments.

"It has taken way longer than I would have ever anticipated," Burton said. "In retrospect, it's kind of the name of the game right now because of limited sponsors, limited teams. That means less opportunity. We've struggled in nailing down a fourth driver. There's a lot of reasons for that. I'm really proud of what we're doing at RCR and I think when people come to see what we're doing I think the drivers are excited about it, too.

"But we haven't been able to nail that down and that's been a surprise to me that we couldn't get that done quicker than we've been able to get it done. It's kind of a mystery to me why we haven't been able to."

Some unconfirmened but published reports are saying Casey Mears will move from Hendrick to Childress and drive the No. 07 Chevrolet, thereby moving Clint Bowyer over to the No. 33.

Interesting side note on Bowyer and the No. 33, it was the number on his bike when, at 6, he won his first national moto in 1988.

UPDATE: Barring a major snag Richard Childress Racing will introduce Casey Mears as its fourth driver next weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, multiple sources told ESPN.com on Saturday. Team owner Richard Childress declined to comment, saying only that he hoped to name a driver soon. Mears said on Friday at Michigan International Speedway that he has signed nothing and continues to talk to more than one organization. But sources said RCR already has made tentative plans for a press conference next Saturday. To be finalized are details of a deal that would put Mears in the Jack Daniels-sponsored #07 currently being driven by Clint Bowyer, who would move to the # 33 that will be sponsored by General Mills. The switch would be made because General Mills reportedly isn't comfortable with Mears because of his association with rival sponsor Kellogg's at HMS. RCR then would petition NASCAR to move the 07 points to the #33 so Bowyer would be guaranteed a spot in the first five races next season.(ESPN.com)(8-16-2008)

LOL, I think it would be much better to give the points to the driver who would be most likely to not be able to qualify into the races. And IF Casey Mears is to be the 4th RCR driver......uh I mean if Casey Mears is going to be in the 4th RCR car he's gonna need them points. Bowyer and crew can at least get in the first 5 and then be in the top 35 for race #6.
I DO LIKE the thought of Bowyer being in the 33 car though
