Thanks Flash! I do recall that the Atlanta race has been run on Monday more than once because of rain. So the plans right off will include staying Monday to watch the race if necessary. I will also be sure to hang on to that pamphlet about the exits too. Thanks so much for the info!!

I am about to start planning my very first race trip and I am at a loss as to just what I am doing. I am planning to stay at the track, camping in an RV. I have heard too many horror stories about the long and congested trip to and from the track. I am planning to go to the spring race in Atlanta. I want to see the qualifying and the truck race on Friday, then stalk some drivers on Saturday, and watch the Cup race on Sunday.

Any help you can give me would be oh so helpful. I am taking my daughter and ex with me and they are not race fans. So the planning and all is totally up to me. I need to know everything, so please don't hold back any info you can share about attending the races.

Do we need ear protection? Can I rent a scanner at the track? Is the FanScan worth the money?

I am taking advantage of this empty forum at this time to try to get some information, not only for me. I have noticed that a lot of our members have said that this would be the first race for them this year too.

Please step forward and help us new-to-the-racetrack-members out!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
HEY mrs 12 there is an article in speedway illustrated, feb 2007 you should check out... talks about how they are fleecing the nascar fans with inflated hotel rates and car rental rates .... might give it a look

Not sure what the seats are like at Atlanta, but at Michigan they are steel bleachers, so you may want to take a seat cushion.
If you plan on taking in your own drinks, check to see what size cooler or cooler bags you are allowed to carry, at Michigan they restict the size.
I have the perfect size bag which allows me to bring in 8 beers.
Sunscreen is a must, as well as earplugs.

Talking Four Tickets for One Low Price at Atlanta Motor Speedway

I ran across this interesting bit of information today as I was taking my daily tour of the racing sites.

Four Tickets for One Low Price at Atlanta Motor Speedway during the Kobalt Tools 500 NASCAR Race Weekend
Atlanta Motor Speedway, Press Release

HAMPTON, Ga. (February 2, 2007) – Atlanta Motor Speedway has three spectacular ticket packages available for fans wanting more bang for their buck during the March 16-18 Kobalt Tools 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race weekend.

Starting at just $88, fans can purchase a ticket to all four events at AMS including Georgia Power NEXTEL Cup qualifying under the lights on Friday, March 16. Immediately following the fastest qualifying session in NASCAR, the toughest trucks on the planet will hit the track for the American Commercial Lines 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race.

On Saturday, March 17, the action heats up as NASCAR’s rising stars and crafty veterans duel on NASCAR’s fastest track in the Nicorette 300 Busch Series race. Last year’s race was won by seasoned driver Jeff Burton, ending his 40-month Busch Series victory drought.

Sunday, March 18 will feature NASCAR’s best with the NEXTEL Cup Series regulars racing for 500- miles in the Kobalt Tools 500. The on-track action will be intense as teams work for a solid start to their 2007 championship campaign.

Single day tickets are available, as well as several weekend packages. Other options include the Winners Grandstand in Turn One which provides fans an excellent view of the frontstretch, the exit of pit road and the entrance of Turn One.

Sitting high atop the Winners Grandstand is Club One, a club-type atmosphere providing fans with a truly one-of-a-kind racing experience in a climate-controlled environment. Club One offers a premium menu, bar, theatre-style seating and a sight and sound observation deck on the roof for fans wanting to experience the race action outdoors.

For more information on seating options at Atlanta Motor Speedway, fans can contact the AMS ticket office at (877) 9-AMS-TIX, (770) 946-4211, at www.atlantamotorspeedway.com or through an authorized Ticketmaster retail outlet.

ear protection for your daughter, definately. Fanscan is worth it. Plan on a long slow ride out of there. I suggest that you plan on partying 3 hours after the end of the cup race, then go.

i am new to the races, ive been to two so far. pocono last july and just got back from daytona this year. My second race ever was an exciting one.

I have some serious questions about the best way to go about planning for these events. Especially, tickets, is there a schedule for when tickets for certain races go on sale? Is it even possible to get good tickets through nascar or are they always bought up by brokers?

Contact the track via their web site. You can also buy packages that include everything like tickets and hotel accommodations. You can google search and find them!
