OMG! You are going to have a blast in the infield!
I just got back from Daytona and this was the first time I did not stay in the in-field. I stayed one block away at the Hampton Inn. Never again. I am very fortunate to get Credentials for all of the races I attend but, you don't need them to have the time of your life.
Make sure you bring food and lots of it. I say that because racefans in the infield are very friendly and pretty much have an open door invitation to people they park around and they all share food, drinks "ICE" snacks and most importantly a first aid kit. At night when the track closes the parties begin and sometimes last a little too long, The cars get on the track very early in the morning and there is no way you can sleep through all the excitement of the roar of the engins.
Gosh, I have so much to tell you I could fill a book but, I really can't get my thoughts and experiences across to you in this post to let you know everything you can do and get for free at the race.
oh, get in line early for autographs and freebies. I collect so much nascar freebies that I could probably get to you before you go. If you want to contact me you have my email address. I will unblock you so we can chat. My husband has many good ideas too and my sister is the ultimate fan and gave me lots of great tips. Hope to hear from you. If not, have a great race weekend and be safe. bye4now, Lee

We all forgot to tell Mrsmopar12 GET IN THE FAN ZONE
If you get in the fan zone and make a sign that way we all know it's you and we will see you on the SPEED channel. Something like Hey, NASCARSPACE FANS I MADE IT! MRSNOPAR12 IS ON THE SPEED CHANNEL. I'm sure somebody out there can come up with a better sign for you but that's just a thought I wanted to pass on to you. bye4now

I will be posting details of Plan B later! ~LOL~ I am so excited!!

Congrats on the tickets! I've been to Michigan and the Glen. If Atlanta is anything like those, you'll need the ear plugs if you want to sleep rather than for the race If you're going to use a scanner(we rented one) you won't need the plugs anyways but i guess everyone's ears are different so better safe than sorry
If you can, show up on thursday. Most people dont' start showing up till late friday or saturday anyways so you won't have too many traffic issues on the way in. On the way out is inevitable so just have plenty of gas in the tank and tunes on the radio
Not sure if there's a way for you to get water for your shower in the RV(assuming it has one), but showering is not fun on race weekend. The lineups are NUTS during the mornings and will likely cost at least $3 to have. Avoid them if you can LOL
Beyond sunscreen, take a staw hat with a big brim on it(difficult to manage with the scanner), but with anything else you'll have a burnt nose and ears if you dont
Always have your camera out and ready when you're walking aroudn the infield..you never know who or when someone will drive by on a golf cart
Other than that just have fun(it'll be hard not to )
i am new to the races, ive been to two so far. pocono last july and just got back from daytona this year. My second race ever was an exciting one.
I have some serious questions about the best way to go about planning for these events. Especially, tickets, is there a schedule for when tickets for certain races go on sale? Is it even possible to get good tickets through nascar or are they always bought up by brokers?
Hi and welcome to the site.
Getting race tickets is usually easy, depending on the track.
The best thing to do is look in the local papers, lots of people buy tickets and sell them by advertising in the paper. You can also search online and find sites that sell tickets.
I would not advise buying tickets from scalpers, as sometimes these are stolen or counterfeit and you could be out alot of money if they are not real.
Our tickets are ordered from direct MIS. We are on the mailing list so our tickets have to be purchased and paid for in early November.
Hope this helps.
Al

First and foremost let me say thank you to all the members how have so kindly posted in this thread! You have helped me in ways I just can't describe, with you kindness and caring.
I have had to go to Plan B, Plan A dissolved beneath my feet 2 weeks ago. It seems that my ex will not be joining my daughter and I for the race and that makes moving a RV/travel trailer out of the question. So we now have moved on with Plan B and even paid for it! ~LOL~
I am now staying at a hotel near the airport and 20 miles from the track. I can say I got the best deal I could get at this late date, and I researched and worked on it for 2 days! Most of the hotels in all the small cities closer to the track are sold out and the Super 8 close by now wants $120.00 a night for a basic motel room. Since it is just my daughter and I alone I wanted a bit better like better security, a fridge and microwave in the room. I was able to get a lot better room for $283.00 for 3 nights taxes and all included!
The tickets for the Sunday Cup race are the premium seat backs in the Winner's Grandstand. Just where I always wanted to sit at Atlanta, close to the end of pit road. God is good. The Friday night qualifying and Truck race we have general admission tickets in the Winners Grandstand. The Saturday Busch race are general admission in the Earnhardt Grandstands, turn 4. I think it is cool that we will be able to watch different races from different parts of the track. I also purchased the 3 day pit passes. For all the tickets and the $8.00 shipping came to $638.00. YAY! After I was done with the ticket order on the phone, (Atlanta's website is confusing!), the agent asked me if I needed anything else. I asked her did she have anything else? She laughed and said " I think you got everything!" ~LOL~ Now I am kinda glad that the ex bailed out, because I was able to upgrade us!
Now I need to know some more things! Like what to do and see at the track. I will be posting more details soon and I will be wanting to thank some certain members for their advice. So if you have any other useful things I should know please post, and thanks for your help!

Having just done this my advice to to go to the website for the track and look at their tickets. I was told in this thread that the ticket agents can add on a handling charge, and I found that they do! I know Atlanta had all sorts or ticket package specials. One they had was all 3 races for $88-$109.00, which is a good deal, and what I had planned to buy. But things worked out differently. Also look at where you want to sit and the prices of the different sections, because the prices do vary. Then once you know what you want call the ticket office at the track and order them. I had all sorts of problems trying to order multiple tickets online, but the ticket agent got it all together for me. She even gave me aisle seats! I paid $135.00 a ticket for the Cup race, with the seat back chairs in the section I had dreamed of sitting in! YAY!! But then the Busch race on Sat. I paid $20.00 a ticket for general admission, the Truck and qualifying tickets were $35.00 each. Then think about if you want pit passes. Atlanta wanted $75.00 per for Friday night only, and $125.00 for all 3 days. One of the ticket outlet listed these pit passes at $139.00, that is a $14.00 fee per ticket! Since it is notorious for rain at Atlanta I went for the full 3 days. One person told me that they had bought the Friday passes one year, got rained out, and never made it into the pits! I also wanted to be in the pits Sunday before the race. Whatever your wants and needs are the ticket agents are more than helpful, especially to us rookie race goers! Good luck to you and if I can help you in anyway, I would be pleased to!

Reason: my usual last minute thoughts!!!
The tickets at the TMS for your average bench style seats ran me $125 each in the higher levels which I think start at row 30-35. Next year when I go in April, I plan to sit in the lower level seating which will run me $85-$115 or something like that. I've never sat down there before but I figure there's no harm in trying it out. You can't see around the entire track down in the first rows from what I remember, but if I don't like those seats, I'll just buy the upper level seats for November. Plus, Texas has those huge screens showing the race so if you can't see the backstretch, you can at least see what happened on the screens.
Most of you probably know this already, but if possible, do NOT buy your tickets from Ticketmaster. Here, TMS has half of the tickets and ticketmaster has the other half. Ticketmaster always charges an unnecessarily high service fee for their tickets. The service fee at TMS was $2 per ticket, while it was around $10 or so at Ticketmaster.
This is the post I was thinking about before, it wasn't in this thread, but another one about ticket prices, so I "imported" it into this thread.

I would bring earplugs or ear cups... I prefer the cups as the plugs bug my ears after a couple of hours but that's a personal thing.
You can get scanners at the track but FanScan is much cooler! Although there can be some issues with screen vision in high sunlight conditions. I have my own scanner but I'll leave it at home if I can get FS.
SHOES! If you're gonna be out there for the weekend.. bring at least 2 pairs of your most comfortable shoes and swap them often.
Look at the weather forcast and be ready for temps 20 degrees on either side of the prediction. Also be ready for rain. I have a light rain shell that I always have in my track bag.
Make Friends with the RVs on either side of you and maybe across the way. They can help keep an eye on your stuff while you're away.
Pick up a copy of the program and usually the local paper will have daily track editions. They'll help you plan where you want to be and at what times for the many events at the track.
Pack suncreen, lip balm, and lots of your favorite pain reliever. You're gonna be sore & headache prone. Nice to have that stuff on tap. Also I throw some waterless hand cleaner and a half dozen paper towels in my track bag.
If you are planning on eating track food, try to hit the concessions at off times cause the lines can be unmanagable at peak times.
You cannot plan for too much comfort... the days will be long but they will be fun-packed!
Thank you so much H8! That was for sure some very good advice! I am taking all of your suggestions and putting them into action.
I was at Big Lots right after you posted this and I found some "emergency rain ponchos" for only $0.59 each! So I bought a dozen of them. The beauty of these are that they are totally disposable, use once and throw away and the next one is still folded small and easily put in the track bag. The ones I don't use can be thrown in the glove compartment or tucked in a kids backpack, we get a lot of rain in Florida! Atlanta is notorious for rain and this piece of advice could totally save the race for us, ~LOL~ well at least make us more comfortable and drier!
Thank you so much for posting in my thread and for all the helpful tips!
