For me, the first thing I would do to enjoy the race is to leave my ex at home..hahaha!!... Atlanta is a good track...very fast. We always take in a few snacks with us, so you don't have to go get food so often. From being in the South, Definitely take a rain poncho ( or such ) in because the weather down here is always changing...
Good luck in the traffic, and enjoy the race....Try to make it to 'Dega in the fall for a great restrictor plate race..Tickets are not hard to get most of the time...

I am so happy for you. I know it's going to be one of the best times you have ever had. Nothing and I mean NOTHING compares to being at a NASCAR race. I hope you get to meet the guys we spoke about. I will look for your sign wish we all knew what you looked like and what you will be wearing it's hard to hold a sign up in the air for TV. I'm sure you will do your best for us you always do. GO #12!!!! Have fun & be careful.
You all were so helpful to Mrs on her first trip to Atlanta that I thought I'd as for some specific to Texas Motor Speedway.
My BIL is on the pit crew for Martin Truex, Jr. and we have hot passes for the race in 2 weeks. I understand we do not have "seats" so we'll be bringing our own chairs and probably set them up behind the #1 pit. I'm sure we'll spend plenty of time wandering too!
We just booked a hotel about 20 miles away. This is my first ever Nascar race, my husbands 3rd but his first at TMS.
We'll be getting there Friday for the Truck race, we'll go there Sat. for the Busch and then, of course, Sun.
I've taken all of the tips that you all have offered on this thread and will certainly add them all to our bag!
Wow! Your in The Front Row with that Hot Pass. Autographs galore! Take a bunch of film or a couple of digitals you are going to have access to the best of the best. Having credentals is much better than having a seat. I have been to a lot of races over the years and I can tell you Credentials are the only way to go if your into all of the hype and I am! Have a great time and please take lots of pictures and post them for us all to see. Go Racin' Girl!

Hi,
I'm from Italy and I'm planning a trip to NY for this summer.
I've always liked NASCAR, so for the occasion I would like to go to Watking Glen to see the Nextel Cup race on august 12th.
Obviously I've never been at any NASCAR race before, so I'm asking you some pieces of advice like these:
- when and where do I have to buy the tickets (internet or direclty at the track)?
- at what time am I allowed to enter the track and when do I have to leave?
- where can I park my car?
- is it possible to see the pits?
...and anything else might help me.
I went to my first race last March, so I am aware of how unsure you are about all of this! First off, take a deep breath and let's see what we can find! You are going to have such a good time!
You might want to look at the thread I started to get advice on my first race, I am sure you will find some helpful hints there:
Remember to plan for any type of weather. I found emergency rain ponchos for $0.59! They were packed small and disposable! I didn't need them, but it was good to know I had them! Plan on packing a race bag with all your essentials (camera, water, personal comfort items, sharpie (in case you see a driver), food/snacks, etc). Races are so cool because everyone is in a party mood.
Now about tickets, I think it is best to get them directly from the track. I was advised that Ticketmaster adds about 10-12 dollars as a handling fee. The web site for Watkins Glen will be you best source of information. The addy for the Glen is:
When I went to Atlanta I bought pit passes. If you can get them, I would recommend them. I paid $125.00 per ticket for a 3 day pit passes and they were worth every penny! That was so much fun and so cool, we spent the bulk of the time at the track in the pits and that is where you will see the drivers. I don't see them being offered at the Glen, but call them and ask if they are available. I do see that they have a hospitality tent and you will want to find out about that. There will be some sort of special activity there for sure. Don't be afraid to call the track and ask questions. It is the most reliable source of information you will find, and the personal at the track will be more than happy to assist you. They will be able to answer most of the questions you have asked. Never having gone to this track myself, I would hate to give you any incorrect information. I do see that they offer pit passes for the corporate hospitality, so they might have the pit passes available.
Get your hotel rooms booked ASAP. I found out first hand that the prices do go up on rooms as the event gets closer and you can get a good deal now. I have no idea how bad the traffic will be at the track. Some tracks offer race packages that also include transportation to and from the track. I see they also offer camping. You can always rent an RV and camp at the track. That is what I wanted to do. You can google search for RV rentals.
Also I highly recommend that you rent the FanView scanner. It is a good deal and will help keep you informed about the race. It offers video, radio, driver frequencies and live stats. It is about $50.00 for a one day rental and approxamently $75.00 for the weekend. You can call a week before the race and get the rental locations, as they do offer rental and return locations outside the track that might be more convenient. Their phone # is 1-800-272-7111 (Racing Electronics)
Keep us posted on your progress and let us know how you enjoy the race. Here is another thread you might enjoy here.
I do hope that I have helped you and that maybe some of our fans that have been to the Glen will post some advice about the track for you. If I can do anything more for you, just let me know. It is so cool to go to a race!!
Would you also please kindly go to the Introduce Yourself forum and tell us a little about yourself?
