Dear mrsmopar12,
thank you so much! You’ve been more than helpful!
I learned a lot from your thread (by the way, your pics are awesome!).
Actually now I’m a little bit scared for all the things I have to care about.
Rent a RV and camp at the track infield is an amazing idea, but unfortunately I’m going all by myself, so I think the RV is too big for me.
This is more or less what I’ve planned so far:
1- Saturday noon I’d rent a car from NYC and start the trip to Glen
2- for the night I’d found a motel by the street
3- Sunday morning wake up early and go to the track, park near it and go inside to see the race, maybe one or two hours before the start (that is about at 1.00 pm, I think).
I know that this might sound strange or too fast, but rented cars are not so cheap (I found that it might cost me a couple of hundred dollars for 3 days).
But now I think I’m going to change some things: first of all I’ll find (and buy) an hotel before it’s too late.
Then, maybe I could start on Friday, so I can take it easy and see more things.
I’ll think about it.
Just last two questions:
Can you explain me exactly what the FanView scanner is? Is it a sort of radio where you can hear all the conversations between the pilots and the pit crews?
You told me to buy the ticket directly from the track, but did you mean on Sunday or some days before the race day?
Dude you are going to have so much fun, I remember when I went to my first race, Tallagega, and it was great to be there. The Glen should be a good race. Just remember don't throw anything on the track no matter how bad the urge is.

Have fun, wish I could be there.
Thank you, man.
I love Talladega! It might be amazing seeing a race on a superspeedway like that! Maybe one day I'll go there too, who knows...
you could call a cab, to take you to where you need to go, shouldn't cost as much as a rental, and trying to get out of the parking areas after a race takes hours...

It could be an idea.
It's just that I've always wanted to drive on the american roads!
I don't know. I'll figure it out.
Location: The OC... and it's nothing like the TV Show!

Thanks again for everything!

Get your tickets from the race track but as soon as possible... if you go to the track on race day you'll be disappointed. Search the web for the website for Watkins Glen race track and you'll be able to order from there.
Fanscan will allow you to listen to conversations between drivers and crews plus also the NASCAR officials and MRN (Radio Broadcast). It also has a small screen where you can view all sorts of data and some video.

I am so glad that your plans are coming together! Try Hotwire.com for the car rental. I got a car for a week for $207.00! It was the same for 5 days as it was for 7! Funny thing about car rentals, the closer it is to the date, the prices will vary, depending on the availability of cars in the area. You might want to reserve a car now under a no sign, no pay deal, and still shop around until you leave for the race! Just browse around without putting down any deposit or such.
Get your room and tickets soon. Buy your tickets via the internet at the track. You can do that on the addy I gave you.
The FanView is very cool, here is a thread about it, and there is a pic of it in the first post. You can listen to any driver and the Crew Chief, the radio program from the race, or to the Nascar officials. You can also view video and get real time stats on all the cars.
Getting out of the parking lot after the race will be the biggest hassle you will have. So be sure to pack plenty of patience and maybe something to do or read for that. I can't blame you for wanting to drive! I would love to go to Italy and drive on the roads there too!
You are going to have a blast! I am so excited for you!

You can purchase tickets there online, it also has a wealth of information on seating, parking , events being held during the race ( always a great concert Sat nite ) and even entrance and exit maps that really help you plan getting in and out.
Watkins Glenn is really cool race! The area from turn one all the way to the chicane on the back straight has some great veiwing of ALOT of on track action ( although it appears straight on the track map its actually downhill out of turn one then uphill into a set of essays then into the back straight ) Another good area is the last turn before the Start Finish line.
Wear comfortble shoes and wander around the track, its an Experiance!! Have Fun

I checked out some prices of rented cars. Yes, more or less those are the prices. The difference between 3 or 5 days is a couple of bucks.
The bad part is that I have to bring the car from the airport.
That means I have to pass through Manhattan to reach the roads for Glen! I think it's easier get out of the parking lot after the race than that!
Another big problem is the hotels: I haven’t found one yet! I tried some motels (from a list found on TheGlen.com) but there’s no one free! I’ll google search until I find one.
By the way, is it normal that they ask you the number of your credit card to make a reservation?
Hope to get all booked for the end of the next week.
Hi guys.
I've just been to TheGlen.com trying to get a ticket.
Before that, I looked at the track map and I found a place I'd like to stay.
It's in turn 2, called "Red, White & Blue".
The TheGlen.com is pretty easy (I read the "Fan Guide", but there are some things I don't get.
Example: the locations.
What does "Sunday Only General Admission" mean? I know that this might sound a stupid question , but remember I'm still Italian!
Is it the option I need?
Because the others are:
-child general admission
-front stretch
-other
-turn 1
-week end general admission
Then, after I chose Sunday GA, they show me the number of the seat (two thousand etc.), but I don't know where it is!
Last thing: the activities.
I found "Cold Pits". I think this is the thing that allows me to access to the pits. Is that right?
I read that this allows me to access from Thursday thru Sunday, even if I get the ticket only for the race, right?
