Kyle Busch could be penalized: NASCAR officials will discuss on Monday if #18-Kyle Busch will be penalized for instigating an incident with winner #99-Carl Edwards on the cool-down lap of Saturday night's Sprint Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Busch, upset over contact from Edwards when he lost the lead with 30 laps remaining, rammed the right side of his car into the #99 as they came back towards the start/finish line after Edwards took the checkered flag for the sixth time this season. Edwards retaliated by spinning Busch out. NASCAR officials immediately summoned Busch to the hauler. Robin Pemberton, NASCAR's vice president of competition, said the situation will be further evaluated. There is precedence for a penalty. Tony Stewart was fined $10,000 and placed on probation for five months after ramming Jeff Gordon's car on pit road in retaliation for a last-lap incident in the 2001 Bristol race. Edwards was not summoned by NASCAR, but he was stopped near the NASCAR hauler by Joe Gibbs Racing president J.D. Gibbs to talk about the exchange with his driver. "He just explained to me that you reap what you sow, which I believe," Edwards said. "I explained to him that's why that happened that way. That's it. I have a lot of respect for him and the organization. They do a really good job and I really look up to them, so that's that." Busch did not talk to reporters following the meeting with NASCAR president Mike Helton, Pemberton and series director John Darby. JGR owner Joe Gibbs, also in the meeting with NASCAR, said only that "NASCAR is smart at what they do. They handle everything the right way."(ESPN.com)(8-24-2008) Comment here

I think that the pit road is the thing here... they have to protect crew members, officials and media peeps on pit row...

I'll laugh they take away his bonus points but they probably won't do anything cause they didn't when Carl tried to play Cole Trickle last year in the Nationwide race last year.Did they??

I'd be surprised if they do anything.... these kind of after-race bumps happen all the time and it would have hardly been noticed if Carl hadn't retaliated by spinning Kyle out. No one was hurt doing it, it wasn't on pit road (which is totally different cause people could easily get hurt there), I doubt it makes it any further than hauling Kyle to the trailer after the race to talk to him.

That seems to be the question on on most fans minds. From his sarcastic "bow to the fans", to his cocky attitude, he is definetly the guy every Nascar fan loves to hate.
Let's take a look.
The first thing wrong with K. Busch, pause for effect, is Nascar. The boys running Nascar desperatly want the next "Intimidator". They need the racing bad guy to survive. That's why he may get the occasional "call to the trailor", but never anything to follow it up. Nothing fuels the sport of Nascar like the bad guy winning races. Nobody liked it when Earnhardt spun Terry Labonte on the final lap of Bristol (twice), but those are by far the most talked about Bristol finishes. And Nascar loves it. No.... Nascar needs it.
The next problem, The Media. Regardless of how Busch races, or how arrogant he acts, the media is all over him. Feeding that ego. How many times do we see the 18 car knock someone out of the way, or try to put the car somewhere that it won't fit, to be called "an aggressive driver". Let some poor rookie do that, and he is refered to as the local idiot. Kyle will continue to act as he does, and get patted on the back for it. But to me, it is a shame that the one Kid Nascar want's to hang the banner on, is the guy that has zero respect for Nascar as a sport, or the people who paved the way for him to be here.(crazyracin.com)
I'm sure plenty of people around here would be happy with that decision... haha

Yeah, actually I thought that was pretty cool myself. I'm sure his team didn't really like having to fix up his bumper, but I laughed when Carl turned into Kyle's rear quarterpanel...

I fail to see what the big deal was for Kyle to do that when Carl bumped him, it didn't cause him to wreck out and he had his retaliation right after it on the track by bumping Carl back. I was really surprised at Carl's response in the Nascar Now interview and like Busch had said thinking he would be apologizing I did expected the same. It was refreshing to see him stand behind his decision and not back down. I can't wait to see the next few races....
