You say Jr gets a lot of coverage because he is the most popular driver then where was all the coverage of Bill Elliott in the 90's since he is a 16 time most popular driver
LOL! First off, Bill Elliot received a ton of coverage back then. Secondly, Dale Earnhardt was easily "the most popular driver" every year back then. They didn't give Michael Jordan the MVP every year either, but we all knew he was the MVP.
Anyway, the point I was tryin to make is that just beacause Jr. gets a lot of coverage does not make him"overrated" Frankly, it is extremely rare that the Nascar media even attempt to "rate" drivers.
So when you see advertisements to Nascar that state (for example) "Join Superstars Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, and Dale Earnhardt Jr in the Sprint Series". What puts him in the "superstar" catagory?? That 1 win in two years?? Or his last name?? Or the fact that he has a huge fan base?
If this sport was a popularity contest. Sure, he'd be a superstar.
Overexposed is a good description also. That I agree with.
Funny u should mention Stewart, Johnson, and Gordon. All of whom Jr. is easily outperforming this year. Sorry, but your post is an EPIC FAIL! You seem to be really focused on why he is a "superstar" Yes, it is largely due to his huge fan base, and his last name. He IS a superstar regardless of why. I just really don't see what the point of this thread, and your posts is other than just bashing drivers.
There is a difference between overrated and overexposed. Jr. may be overexposed, but he aint overr.ated
Exactly. Overrated means you are describing someone to be better than they actually are. Being extremely popular is not the same thing. No one is saying JR. is the best driver out there. He gets praise for being talented, but just about all of the drivers do.
JR. can't be doing all that bad, he is number 2 in the chase...but hey that must be because of his dad, or Hendrick, or anyone but JR. himself. But then again Gordon and Johnson aren't doing any better...
You're right bowtie, it couldn't be the equipment Hendrick gives him now. His results are exactly like when he was at DEI blowing engines up every other race. I'm sure that was the Teresa's fault there though, with the big Earnhardt conspiracy and all. The more I pay attention to NASCAR the more I am coming to realize equipment > crew chief and driver communication > driver's ability.

Way to avoid all the factual points I made in that post. True, they didn't talk about Bill as much once he wasn't winning anymore. Then again, like I said in the post u just quoted, we all know Bill Elliot was never really the most popular driver. As a matter of fact, the most popular driver award is almost always given to the wrong driver, just cuz they don't want the same guy to win it every year.

if they don't want to give it to the same guy every year then why has Bill won 16 times????????????????? BTW you do realize most popular driver is a fan vote right? So if Earnhardt Sr was the most popular driver during that time why did no one vote for him.
Though Bill does admit in his autobiography he never thought he deserved it

No i didn't realize the fans voted on that. How did they do so back then? Anyway, it isn't even arguable that Earnhardt wasn't the most popular driver in those days. I went to races back then as a child, and I remember being amazed at how many of the people at the race were wearing Earnhardt shirts and scraeming for Dale when he took the lead. There is no way Bill Elliot was more popular. He may have been more popular among those who voted, bt that's it.

Actually, your post is an EPIC FAILURE. Outperformed?? By winning 1 race in 2 years? So why not put Casey Mears in that bunch? Or Carl Edwards, He's not a stranger to victory lane.
No bashing drivers. I just don't see why he's so "glorified" as a superstar over other drivers. What makes him any better than Biffle, Mears, Edwards, Truex Jr, Harvick, etc?? There are 43 other drivers on the track. Ones who gain or are trying to gain thier respect and notoriety through racing and experience. Trying to "make a name for themselves." Little Jr was handed his notoriety and respect through his fathers legacy.
IMO, He ain't all that and a bucket of lugnuts. But to each his own. It's what makes us fans.
