I hesitate to post as this is such a rah rah rah NASCAR forum. It seems some of the bloggers are shills for nascar instead of racing fans. I have visited this forum several times and read admonishments not to "flame" or be overly critical here.
However, I am here by invitation so imhop......
1. Toyota has no business on the track. They especially have no right to build a special engine for their teams. Yes I know that race engines don't resemble street engines anymore but lets maintain a level playing field. Let Ford, Chevy and Dodge develop OHC engines if they choose, at least make Toyota run what they manufacture and manufacture something similar to what they race.
2. Joe Gibbs wins the Sprint (nextel, winston whatever) Cup opportunist of the year award, but this is symptomatic of Nascar today, The deepest pockets win!
I hope Tony Stewart quits and finds a good Chevy ride again. Go back to football Joe, or better yet just go away.
3.The COT has taken most of the excitement out of the sport. It isn't just the idea of a common rolling chassis but all the restrictive rules that come along with it. There is almost no room for technical innovation anymore and with some of the draconian penalties for rules violations I am sure crew chiefs and crews are afraid to implement any new ideas they may come up with.
I will agree that the car is probably the safest ever to be introduced into the sport and thats great, no one wants to see these drivers hurt, maimed or killed. Since it is so safe and the drivers are well protected what say we throw away the restrictor plates and really go racing at the super speedways,
thats what they were built for!
4.Nascar needs to pick a broadcaster and stick with it Darrell Waltrip and crew on FOX are far and away the most entertaining group covering the races and you don't have to have cable to watch the race. A lot of race fans don't subscribe to cable or sattv or their particular package doesn't include TNT or SPEED or ESPN. As stock car racing is one of the few reasons I even turn the television on I am not likely to pay for a yearly subscription service that carries a lot of programming i am not interested in. By the way so far TNTs' Track Buddy doesn't work.
5.Conduct unbecoming.......... I could go on for sometime with various criticisms of Nascar and why I think this year has been something of a snore,
but it really boils down to one thing: Greed. The Sprint cup,(WINSTON) Nationwide(BUSCH) and Craftsman truck series has been so sanitized by Nascar to appeal to the masses, that it isn't as thrilling of a spectator sport as it once was. Nascar wants Mom , little sister Susie and aunt Betty to have tickets and accompany Dad and Son to the track and not be offended by a driver using some strong language after being wrecked in the final laps of the race.Personally I would love to hear what JR. said when Kyle hit him.
Automobile racing is not for everybody Nascar and thats good. Accept that before you lose too many more fans. The grandstands at Michigan weren't sold out and it wasn't because of the price of gas.
First let me point out that the only "admonishment" that is not tolerated is extreme bashing, and that is usually meant as directed to drivers and/or other members. We WANT everyone to feel comfortable here, as so many forums are extremely hateful and harsh. That tends to make people shy away especially if their driver is bashed continually.
Second opinions can be made without "flaming" trust me.
As far as NASCAR opinions go I agree with almost everything you said. Nascar has completely disappointed me this year and even before. I don't believe that they had to or needed to change the sport to bring in more fans of any demographic or nationality. I believe what they have done is the opposite.
I also agree with your opinions on the coverage. Stick with Fox, but that all goes back to money and as you mentioned GREED.
You are very welcome to come here and say what you feel, in fact I like what you had to say and look forward to more!
I would have to agree with everyone on this one. Nascar has really helped the sport go down the drain rather than make it better. I think the COT is a great concept for safety but it hasn't done anything for racing. Look at Bristol and Dover, there were hardly any cautions because all the drivers could do is drive around in a line. I miss the heated quotes and emotion that the drivers showed when the race went bad for them. When fuel mileage races become the highlight of the season I think it is time to change things up. And I don't mean add another person to the Chase. Oh yeah and by the way, is there anyway that the broadcasters can quit with all the Races for the Chase and Race for the race to the chase and finally the chase. Can't the drivers just drive without worrying about who's going to make it in the Chase after the 2nd race of the season?!?!?

Reason: misspellings
I think Nascar has a big problem with tv. This year it is just getting worse. If NASCAR wants to succeed they will need to fix this tv situation soon. Look at other major sports. Baseball you can watch on FOX or your local station might be playing your hometown's game. That also goes for basketball. I could watch every Lakers game on 1 channel. Now I am not a Lakers fan, but that isn't the point. Then football. I can watch around 5 games if I switch between CBS and FOX. So these are the three biggest sports in the US and they can all be watched somewhat convienently. Now NASCAR I can watch the first races, but come the middle of the season what if I didn't have a cable. If NASCAR had all their races on non cable stations fans would be able to keep up with their favorite driver every Sunday which means that when your favorite driver is in a battle to get into the chase you would know about it and want to go watch your driver at the racetrack.
I understand this is all about money, but if you get more fans to the racetrack NASCAR is still making money they just probably haven't figured that out yet.

I can see what a lot of you are saying about the COT car and you just don't seem to get as much racing. More follow-the-leader. Whoever gets the clean air and doesn't screw up has a great chance of winning.
My opinions are based on all three series though, and I've really enjoyed most of the Truck races and thoroughly enjoyed the Nationwide series. There has been a lot of great races so far imho.
Your right about the great racing in the Nationwide series but now they're going to screw that up next year to with this new car. I'm sure the trucks will be next.
I was flipping through the channels an hour ago and came across an F1 race on speed so I thought I’d watch little. It didn’t take long for me to realize how much like F1 NASCAR is becoming. I’ve been watching for about an hour and I don’t think I’ve seen a single on track racing pass but they sure look cool following each other around the track.
Do you guys think this is the reason NASCAR came up with the chase format, so everyone could just chase the car in front of them each race but never pass?

LOL, you may be on to something there. Made me laugh either way!
