We have our villains and our heroes. We have our drama and a shift in dominance from Hendrick to Toyota.
I think it's been a great year to be a Nascar fan. I have actually lost sleep a few nights after a race because I was so affected by an event in the race. That is a good thing!
There are only two sports for me. Nascar and Football. Covers just about the whole year too! It's great to be a fan!!!
I don't feel like I've been real excited about the season so far. To me there hasn't been those crazy racing to the edge of the finish line. Maybe it's just that Kyle's dominating I don't know. How cool would it have been to watch Jeff Gordon, David Gilliland and Kyle Busch really race it out neck and neck for the finish last week. I guess it just seems like a lot of follow the leader and I am going to assume it's due to the COT.

It's been boring for the most part I think. Yes their has been drama like KB wrecking Jr at Richmond or Harvick wrecking Stewart at Bristol, or Johnson making it on fuel at Phoenix. Wow the way I make it sound it's been pretty intresting....lol

The brand of car you are driving means little to nothing anymore.
There are WAY too many cookie cutter oval and tri-oval tracks.
Tradition, common sense, testosterone, gray areas, good ol boy, fan based fun all are hard to find in this years Cup coverage.
I still watch the races but more and more I find myself wondering "why"?
I just do not feel like the sport is growing TOWARDS the fans that made it what it is but rather the sport is purposely trying to change its image into something else, its fan base into something else.
It seems the sport is embarrassed to call its fans....its fans.
I tend to think somona has been the best RACE of the season, marcos ambrose in a wood bros car... looked dang good out there! I am impressed... wonder how he woulda done at watkins glenn last year if he had taken robbie gordon up on his offer!!! but over all ... it is a parade season, cars following kyle bush,,, he is the only guy out there pushing his car to the limits, everyone else just follows along like railcars behind a train engine..... wanna see some racing darn it... not just cars going in circles....
I really think NASCAR is killing itself with the COT. At least in the past the only time the races were this boring was at the super speedways and even then you could count on some passing and a couple of wrecks. I'm all for making the sport as safe as possible but it seems they've forgotten that this is suppose to be racing at it's highest level and the fans expect to see that level of competition. So far the COT is falling VERY short and not even close to the competition level of the trucks or the nationwide series. I've found myself watching more of the nationwide races just so I can see some good racing.
I agree with most of you, there has been some exciting moments but not to many. The COT is a problem and I sorta agree with what BigE said about Kyle driving the hardest and the other drivers just staying in line. The seasons not over with though so who knows...

I don't like it all that much this year either. Way too much just driving around the track following each other. Endings are usually OK but we wait a long time for the end.
I hesitate to post as this is such a rah rah rah NASCAR forum. It seems some of the bloggers are shills for nascar instead of racing fans. I have visited this forum several times and read admonishments not to "flame" or be overly critical here.
However, I am here by invitation so imhop......
1. Toyota has no business on the track. They especially have no right to build a special engine for their teams. Yes I know that race engines don't resemble street engines anymore but lets maintain a level playing field. Let Ford, Chevy and Dodge develop OHC engines if they choose, at least make Toyota run what they manufacture and manufacture something similar to what they race.
2. Joe Gibbs wins the Sprint (nextel, winston whatever) Cup opportunist of the year award, but this is symptomatic of Nascar today, The deepest pockets win!
I hope Tony Stewart quits and finds a good Chevy ride again. Go back to football Joe, or better yet just go away.
3.The COT has taken most of the excitement out of the sport. It isn't just the idea of a common rolling chassis but all the restrictive rules that come along with it. There is almost no room for technical innovation anymore and with some of the draconian penalties for rules violations I am sure crew chiefs and crews are afraid to implement any new ideas they may come up with.
I will agree that the car is probably the safest ever to be introduced into the sport and thats great, no one wants to see these drivers hurt, maimed or killed. Since it is so safe and the drivers are well protected what say we throw away the restrictor plates and really go racing at the super speedways,
thats what they were built for!
4.Nascar needs to pick a broadcaster and stick with it Darrell Waltrip and crew on FOX are far and away the most entertaining group covering the races and you don't have to have cable to watch the race. A lot of race fans don't subscribe to cable or sattv or their particular package doesn't include TNT or SPEED or ESPN. As stock car racing is one of the few reasons I even turn the television on I am not likely to pay for a yearly subscription service that carries a lot of programming i am not interested in. By the way so far TNTs' Track Buddy doesn't work.
5.Conduct unbecoming.......... I could go on for sometime with various criticisms of Nascar and why I think this year has been something of a snore,
but it really boils down to one thing: Greed. The Sprint cup,(WINSTON) Nationwide(BUSCH) and Craftsman truck series has been so sanitized by Nascar to appeal to the masses, that it isn't as thrilling of a spectator sport as it once was. Nascar wants Mom , little sister Susie and aunt Betty to have tickets and accompany Dad and Son to the track and not be offended by a driver using some strong language after being wrecked in the final laps of the race.Personally I would love to hear what JR. said when Kyle hit him.
Automobile racing is not for everybody Nascar and thats good. Accept that before you lose too many more fans. The grandstands at Michigan weren't sold out and it wasn't because of the price of gas.
