Ok everyone-
Please give me your thoughts on the TV coverage that Nascar is given.
My opinion-
Last weekend, TNT (who we all know is NBC) stunk! Throughout the whole race, Bill, Benny & Wally were trying to bring up old rivalries that are dead. Why in the world would they bring up a 3 year old fued between Robbie Gordon & Michael Waltrip? Who cares? I'm surprised they didn't bring up the Harvick/Biffle incident. They did however show the Ricky Rudd/Harvick incident. What was that supposed to prove? Ricky doesn't even drive anymore.
Commercials, Commercials, commercials. Will we ever get to see the re-start of a race after a caution again? That is one of the best parts!!! I know you have to play commercials, but give me a break.
Daryl, Larry Mac & Jeff were annoying for sure, but I'm not sure Benny Parsons is any better!!!
So tell me whatcha think?
So, are you an NBC coverage fan, or a FOX coverage fan?
I like the Fox coverage better, I like the way Jeff Hammond explains the car and what is happening. I just think those announcers are more comfortable and down to earth than the NBC crew. Plus the Fox graphics are always cool, I love their NFL coverage as well...
both NBC and FOX have horrible coverage!!
its like choosing between the lesser of two evils
ESPN Speedworld coverage of NASCAR Winston Cup during the 80's and 90's was by far the best, and that is the standard that i compare today's coverage to....just a few days ago, i was watching an old race, it was the 1995 running of the Tyson Holly Farms 400 @ North Wilksboro Speedway, and in that race, Bob Jenkins, Benny, Ned Jarrett, etc. were providing some top notch commentary, and the first commercial break didnt come until like lap 25-30

i agree with driver8... ESPN was always the best.. im not sure how they will be when they return.... i miss the old commentary.. but remember 95 was when it wasn't about the money.... and in my opinion 95 was the best year for racing

on a side note....back in the day when ESPN was doing the coverage, i used to bitch about Bob Jenkins always throwing it to commercial....if i only knew what a miserable site a NASCAR telecast would become during the new millenium

I completely agree with you both. The lesser of two evils it is. Have you seen "Back in the Day" with Dale Jr? It's on Speed Channel. The coverage the TV had in those years was awesome. My favorite part is when they show the cars going into the pits. The sign guys stands right out there infront of the pit box just looking to get run down. I remember ABC's coverage when Howard Cosell was announcing too. That wasn't too bad. I also am interested in what ESPN will do for coverage. Aren't they affiliated with NBC also? Or is that something else?
