Agreed mrsmopar, but I always thought the first two letters stood for "National Association". That's one reason I had a problem with them racing in Mexico and now Canada. Sorry to our northern and southern neighbors, but NASCAR is an American sport. If you want to see it, come to America. We're pretty nice! Either way, foreign manufacturers have no business in NASCAR imo.
I already said I own a Toyota, but I wouldn't have even bought one if it weren't for the price. I do understand why they are cheaper, but I want more for my money. The 2 Chevys I've had were pieces of crap. My parents and my grandparents have never owned a foreign car, but I will say that some of their American cars were pieces of crap too. The trucks are always fine, but the cars have turned to ****. Their sales wouldn't be so low if they built better cars that also appeal to consumers. It was a little hard for me to get a foreign car though, I felt like a traitor.
i agree with newer chevys being junk my 02 impala fell apart at about 55k but my 05 town and country was so bad the dealer had it more than me needless to say they own it again however my 98 high milage ford zx2 runs like new and i beat the hell out of it anyways im glad im not alone on this toyota crap maybe nascar should look closer at its roots instead of its bank acount being a auto and heavy truck tech i cant understand why people waist there money on jap junk they build a good engine but up here in maine a toyota or nissan frame and body are gone in 5 years or more due to rust

Toyota IS an american manufacturer. They build cars in the US. The Camry for one has more US Content than many Fords.
And Mrs Mopar, Buicks and Pontiacs are allowed to race. JUst like the Mercury equivilent of the Fusion is. GM (and Ford) have made the croporate decision to back only one make of car... They don't want to see one make "beat" a corporate sibling.
I couldn't care less where they have manufacturing facilities, that does not make them an American manufacturer. GM and Ford make a lot of their cars in Mexico and Canada, but they are still labelled "American cars". When talking about auto sales at the end of each year, Toyota will always be under the "foreign manufacturer" title.
We can debate "how American is your American car" if you like but it's pointless. Every manufacturer uses at least some parts made in other countries. Difference is, the big 3 are American companies, while Toyota is a Japanese company. That alone puts them in the "foreign" category.
I hate to repeat myself from a similar tread BUT if we're going to not allow foriegn automobile manufactors in NASCAR then Dodge would be outlawed as well since it's owned by Daimler-Chysler which of course is a German company. So what make's it alright that dodge can be in NASCAR but not toyota?

Chrysler was a solely American company until they merged. They can (and still are) seen as an American company (be it only partially) since they have headquarters in both Germany and the U.S. It's seen that way because it was a merger, although I remember some mess a few years ago about it being a takeover. Toyota never was, nor will they ever be an American company. They can merge with Ford, and Ford would still be seen as an American company, while Toyota still foreign. Now had that company completely bought out Chrysler and the U.S. headquarters closed their doors, Chrysler could no longer legitimately be seen as an American manufacturer, no matter where they have facilities. No headquarters in whatever country you choose, means it is not said country's company. At least that's the way I understand it. I could be totally wrong on that.

Many people think that toyota will eather dominate or just plane stink up nascar this year. Also a lot of people think that toyota will kill all of nascar and the others. If toyota dominates its not toyotas fault because they spend 10000000000000000000000000000000$ on cars a crew members to make cars and al the parts. If they beat everyone its nascars fault not the toyota people. Nascar would have let toyota get an unfair advantige. This coming year will be good if toyota does not dominate, if they are the same in a level playin field.
People say toyota is gona dominate. eather that or they will not be nothin the first few years and make a big jump and then domonate. If they domanate it will be nascars fault not toyotas because nascar is leting them spend billons and billions of $$ on people to make the cars better and they will just keep gettin better and better day by day. If toyota comes and kills all the other drivers chevy and ford could be no longer in nascar like in other racing toyota came and domanated and they kill all the others its scary
Hmmm .. I started this conversation with b/f and he's thinking that Nascar has changed so much in the last 20 yrs that letting Toyota in is the least of their problems. I'd have to agree I guess. What happened to RACING??
