I had an oppourtunity of a lifetime last night.... 3 laps around the PIR racetrack... In my Monte Carlo! Ok, so it was following a pace car, but it was still on track time... anyone else out there do same or similar? tell us all when and where!
Wow malbiker, that had to be the experience of a lifetime. Very cool!
I have never done that, but am hoping to hear from some of our members who maybe have. How did you manage to get track time?

Hi Mrs. it was pretty cool... the PIR website advertised that for a donation to the military families charity that is sponsored by Brian Sperber, the big man at PIR, the general public would be able to take a few "laps" around the track. granted it was at pace speed, but it was way cool anyway. all you had to have was a valid DL, proof of ins. and a valid registration. there were a few Monte's out here, a few camaro's, a 66 chevelle 396 SS, a club came out with their SSR's, a few vettes, and surprisingly enough, maybe a dozen BIG suv's and pickup trucks..... all together maybe 60 or so vehicles.... it was something though i'll never forget, and i'd do it again in a heartbeat... ;-)
Location: The OC... and it's nothing like the TV Show!

Let's see, I've drag raced at Orange County International Raceway, Carlsbad Raceway, Pomona, Cal Speedway and Terminal Island.
I've done driving schools at Willow Springs and Buttonwillow Raceway Park and i've tentivly scheduled a track day at Willow Springs driving a buddies '67 GT 500 Shelby.
Oh I autcrossed at El Toro, Irvine Meadows and Cal Speedway.

well that's cool... and you brought back some memories of mine... i too did drag racing, back in michigan up at tricity dragway near saginaw.... and i raced division 7 nhra bracket finals 1978 up at famosa dragstrip up by bakersfield... ahhh yes, good times for sure....
thanks for the post, always good to have fun racing, no mater what kind! :-)
Sounds cool! Years ago between the heats and mains almost all the local short tracks would let kids out of the stands ride around the track with there favorite driver in his race car, talk about some wide eyed kids!!! No Way in #$%# would insurance companies allow anything like that to happen nowadays

We went to Bristol once to tour the track. The van was too full of people, so they asked if we didn't mind following the van on the tour. Which, by our luck, included driving on the track at about 70 MPH. That was probably the coolest thing ever!
oh i wanted to bad..... but i would have had to turn the 2 cars and 2 trucks that were in the line ahead of me too :-)
and Bristol would be way cool to do too.... hey, maybe that would be a challenge.... see how many tracks out of the 36 that you could drive on...whether it be for charity or fun!
