Why do we love this sport?

Hey guys,

I'm not a diehard fan like most of you probably are. In fact, I'm doing research on what makes NASCAR fans love this sport? I mean, just to play devil's advocate here, NASCAR is just a bunch of cars going in circles. What's exciting about that?

When did you get into it, and why?

Kind regards,
E.

Wow-
I hear this question all of the time. Espescially being a women! For me, I love the cars. The sound and feel of the cars is almost, (and I do say almost) as exciting as sex!!! If you've never been to a track to hear and feel the cars start up, you wouldn't understand. I also love the way you have to change the cars and make them work at each track. The tire changes, camber, wedge adjustments, etc...... It is neat the way that all has to come together to make a winning car, and it always changes.

Oh ya, the guys are cute too!!!! Also, where can you go with 200,000 people and have everyone love a different team, and everyone gets along. Not in Football, not in baseball. If you are a SF fan and you attend a Raider game, you are in big trouble, but if you are wearing a Gordon Jacket in a sea full of Jr fans, they don't beat the crud out of you!!!!!

But that's just one women's opinion..

I was going through some of the older posts and found this one. I think we can for sure answer this and it will be fun to find out why we all love Nascar. I thought the we all could kinda-sorta get us a Nascar fix with this thread. I will be answering, but not tonight, it is late, so I figured I go ahead and bump the thread back up for y'all too.

For me it is the sound of the cars when you go to a track. Nothing quite like that sound in the world. And the smells at the track. The way the wind rushes by you when they pass. The thrill of the speed and chase. You can watch it on tv or watch it at the track but it is amazing when you see the speed they have. Feel the vibration on your seats. awwwwwww

To me Nascar is an exciting sport because it takes so much to get the cars set up to be competitive. I like all the techno stuff. There are so many variables to getting the car to run right. Every track is different and the set ups make or break the race performance. I like that there are so many things that they can do to get the handling better on the car during the race. It takes a car that has had all the right adjustments made to win a race.

A lot of people think that a race is just go fast and turn left. There is way more than that. Like I said the car has to be adjusted to run well on a particular track, then there are the changing track conditions. When the tracks heat up or cool down that also effects the way the car handles and grips. The crew chief has to anticipate what will make the car perform at it's best for the next 40-50 laps. He does this based on feedback, how his driver is telling him that the car is performing, anticipating how the track will be changing, knowledge, and a lot of instinct.

The drivers also have to stay focused. It must be hard to be all hot and frustrated and trying to hold a line that will give you the best lap times, while having to watch out for the other 42 cars on the track and trying to pass as many as you can! A drivers attitude has a big part to play with the outcome of the race. Driving talent and attitude have to work hand in hand for a driver to get the most out of his car. We have all seen a driver that just sorta gives up during a race and the driver who kinda looses his cool and makes a silly move, that can take himself out and others too, intentional and unintentional!

Then there is the pit crew, the true unsung heroes of the race. We are all aware that many times, the race can be won or lost in the pits. The pit crew has to work as a well oiled machine. With pit stops now getting into the 12 second time frame, the whole team has to work in very coordinated moves. Just one wrong move could mean the lose of a lot of positions on the track, where as a good pit stop can give you even more potential for a better position and a better chance at a win. When done right, a pit stop can be a thing of beauty to me.

I have never been to a live race, To hear and see and smell it all. I am looking forward to that very much. I love the way that lvhrvck29 and degafan have described it! I know that once I do experience it all that it will take my addiction to Nascar to a whole new level!

All of this is the reason why I love this sport, Nascar! So many variables and so much talent on so many levels all coming together to make one great race.!

Well I have been a die hard fan for about 3 years now I was just flipping threw the channels one day and landed on the speed channel they were playing re runs of the races from 04 and right then and there I started learning everything about Nascar. I like the sport becasue I Love speed and cars Nascar is more fun to watch and read about then other sports maybe it's becasue all the gossip It's just a really fun sport. You can tell alot about a person just by knowing who there fav driver is. The Nascar world is just one big family and I will never go back to my old days when I was alittle girl and I didn't know what Nascar was, I was stupid back then!! LOL.

Talking New to Nascar!

I am a person that used to complain when my husband would have all his friends come over every Sunday and watch the race. He went to a few and I stayed home because I hated the sport. "What is so much fun about watching a bunch of cars go around and around a track?" That is what I used to ask them every week.

And then Last June My husband asked me to go along to the Michigan International Speedway to watch a race. And since they were going to be camping in a campground that had a place to fish I went.

The Saturday before the race everyone that was with us went to Walmart in Jones, Michigan and were buying shirts and hats for there favorite drivers which included Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin. I needed to pick a driver before going to the race so I decided on Carl Edwards simply because he does the back flip when he wins. Not thinking that it was going to be any big deal to be at a race.

BOY WAS I WRONG!!!!!!!
There is nothing like setting in the stands and the rush you get when those cars go flying past, the roar of the engines, and if your driver happens to come from behind and lead the race even if it is for just a few laps you get a rush that is second to none! At least in my case!

Carl Edwards lead several laps that race but in the end it was rained out and Kasey Kayne won but it was so worth it!
