Wood Bros 21 car, WHERES KENNY?

I heard a rumor that Kenny Schrader is out of the 21 car and Bill Elliot is taking it over, I guess until he uses up his 6 Past Champions provisionals? Are they trying to get back in the top 35 by dumping Schrader and putting in a PC? Are they building for the future? Jon Wood was in the 21 for the AllStar race, until he got taken out by a unguided South American missle
Anyone seen any confirmation of the Woods plans for the 21?

Yep, they are putting Bill Elliot in the car, hoping that his 6 provisionals will get them back up into the top 35 in points. I wish them luck, but after seeing Dale Jarrett fail at the same thing with the #44, I have my doubts. It would be good to see Bill race again, but I am seriously thinking that he needs to hang it up! He hasn't been all that competitive in the past few years. At least he has a good CC with him.

I really do like Jon Wood, he seems like a nice young man. I have seen a few interviews with him and was impressed by the way he handled himself!

Hey FLash, I went looking and found this for you!

Reid Spencer
Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service

CONCORD, N.C. -- When former NASCAR Nextel Cup champion Bill Elliott takes the wheel of the Wood Brothers' No. 21 Ford for the May 27 Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway, veteran crew chief Michael "Fatback" McSwain will be calling the shots from the pits.

Elliott will replace Ken Schrader on a race-to-race basis as the Wood Brothers try to move from 39th into the top 35 in the owner points standings. Team owner Eddie Wood has said that McSwain "is worth 200 points a season" from the standpoint of race strategy.

McSwain has been serving as competition director for the Wood Brothers and, for practical purposes, will exchange duties with Ernie Cope, who has been serving as Schrader's crew chief.

McSwain has been the Woods Brothers' go-to guy in the past. Last season, when the Wood Brothers were battling to remain in the top 35, they brought McSwain to the track at Pocono in July to help ensure that the No. 21 Ford would have a guaranteed staring spot in the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard the following week.

The Wood Brothers trail the 35th-place car in the series -- the No. 25 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet driven by Casey Mears -- by 163 points

Oh wow Flash, I hadn't thought about that, but you could well be right! That would truly be a shame if it were to happen. Kenny is a racer's racer, he races more and different types of series than any other driver today. I sure hope that this doesn't happen!!!

Unhappy

I'm with you flash, and Mrs12. I'm concerned, and would be sad if Kenny wasn't racing in Cup anymore.

OK, thats too funny. Seems like he's been called a few things over the past few months, but that one is the best. Thanks for the laugh flflash47

I don't know about the whole Kenny thing. I think it falls back to under funded teams looking to get a 'name' in the car. I like the hell out of Kenny Schrader, but I think(my opinion) he's in the same boat as Elliot. They are both still competitive, but not on the level they need to be on.

Kenny has a lot to fall back on if he's canned from his ride. He owns a track, he is still competitive on the level of the CTS and ARCA, he an awesome dirt driver, and I believe he is a great TV personality so we wouldn't see the last of him.
