David Gilliland to Robert Yates

Just read on Jayski that David Gilliland has signed with Yates. Supposed to be an announcement at the Brickyard. No news on which actual team he'll be with. What do you think? Can Gilliland handle Cup?

I agree with fan 26McMurray, I do not think he is ready for Cup. He won a few weeks ago but I think he needs a lot more "sperence" (as DW would say) in Busch cars. I tell you what though, I remember back in the day watching his dad race in the Winston West series, David is 100x better than his dad ever was. The equipment has a little something do with it though.

Yates cancels press conference

Yates Cancels? been told the Robert Yates Racing Press Conference at Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been canceled, it was scheduled for this afternoon around 1:00pm/et, supposedly to announced David Gilliland as a new driver for one on RYR Cup teams, no word why it was canceled.(8-4-2006)

I wonder what the deal is?!? Maybe Sadler decided to stay since Baldwin was fired. I know that they didn't get along and that's not very conductive to running well or winning.

Confimed from sources at the track that the press conference has been canceled and will end up being held later in August.(8-4-2006)

I saw that too Team Yates. So Sadler didn't get along w/Baldwin, you might be right! That would be cool, at least they would have one "veteran" driver.

Wink David Gilliland O'Reilly Raceway Park Advance

Drivers Choice Press Release
David Gilliland

O’Reilly Raceway Park Fast Facts

No. 90 CitiFinancial Ford Fusion

Kroger 200

NASCAR Busch Series

Saturday, August 5

GILLILAND ORP NOTES-

David Gilliland will drive the No. 90 CitiFinancial Ford this weekend at O’Reilly Raceway Park. Gilliland will substitute for driver Stephen Leicht , who will attempt to qualify the No. 90 CitiFinancial Ford for the Allstate 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Gilliland, 30, has nine NASCAR Busch Series starts, including a victory at Kentucky Speedway earlier this season. He also qualified for the Nextel Cup race at Infineon June 25, where he finished 32nd.

GILLILAND’S Q & A-

What is it like to have the opportunity to drive for Robert Yates Racing and CitiFinancial?

“I’m really looking forward to this weekend’s race at ORP. I went up to the RYR Busch shop this week to fit my seat and all of the guys were extremely nice. They have given me a wonderful opportunity to drive the CitiFinancial Ford and I’m looking forward to getting them a strong finish.”

Are you excited about returning to short track racing this weekend?

“I am no different than any other driver in the fact that I grew up on the short tracks. It is a form of racing that I truly enjoy and feel like I can be successful doing at this level.”

Did you ever expect that your year would turn out this way?

“Racing is something that I have worked for my entire life. Yes, I am extremely busy, but being busy is a challenge I have always wanted. I’ve worked really hard to get where I am and the hard work is starting to pay off. I never expected everything to happen so fast.”

CREW CHIEF- Jerry Pitts will continue to crew chief the efforts of the No. 90 CitiFinancial Ford Fusion this weekend at ORP.

CHASSIS INFORMATION- The CitiFinancial team is taking chassis No.B6 to ORP. This is the same chassis that previously raced at Richmond (started 32nd, finished 18th), Phoenix (started 38th, finished 32nd), Milwaukee (started 21st, finished 13th) and Martinsville (started 25th and finished 26th).

GILLILAND’S AVAILABILITY- Gilliland will be available to the media following final NBS practice at 1:30 p.m. behind the No. 90 CitiFinancial Ford hauler (weather permitting).

LAST WEEKEND- Stephen Leicht and the CitiFinancial Team finished in the 38th position after a part failure sent Leicht into the wall on lap 110 at Gateway International Raceway on Saturday.
