NASCAR officials will take no action; track security guard OK

CONCORD, N.C. -- Kurt Busch accidentally struck a Lowe's Motor Speedway security guard with his car on his way to Friday night's premiere of the Disney movie Cars, according LMS senior vice president Jerry Gappens.

Gappens said the 2004 Nextel Cup champion was in a police escort to the track when the guard tried to cut off the line.

He said a track official inside of Busch's car told him to keep going, at which time Busch made contact with the knee of the guard. He said the guard completed the final 15 minutes of his shift before going to the track hospital, where he was checked out and cleared.

Gappens said the guard returned to work on Saturday.

"It wasn't enough that our internal security filed a report," Gappens said. "As far as the speedway is concerned, it's a non-issue. But I guess because of what happened with Kurt at Phoenix last year, he has a target on his back.

"In a way, it's not fair."

Busch was cited for reckless driving the Friday before November's race at Phoenix International Raceway.

Busch was later sentenced to 50 hours of community service, which he completed before the April race at Phoenix.

Busch was not available for comment before Saturday night's Busch Series race.

Jim Hunter, NASCAR's vice president for corporate communications, said the sanctioning body has looked into the matter and decided it's a "non-NASCAR issue."

"As far a NASCAR's concerned, it's an incident between the parties and we will be monitoring it," he said.

Wow! Some one is cutting Kurt a break? Thats awesome. Maybe now he can start racing again without looking over his shoulder for every little thing. I'd love to see that. -CHEF-
