How many times have you seen a 2 door Ford or Dodge. If Nascar wants to slow the race down , then keep the cars in the bodies that the were designed with.
I agree with your statement, Nascar should do that. Only one problem I can see is that Toyota doesn't have a RWD car, and Ford, last time I looked, didn' have one also. Only Dodge and Chevy, and Chevy was the only one that had a 2 door.

There is some great stuff at NASCAR and at wikipedia. I would post links but I don't have enough posts.

Basically the car is a new template for the NASCAR cars. NASCAR wanted wanted to make a safer car.

Also, they wanted to make it more adjustable, meaning that you could take a car and run it at Daytona (a superspeedway) and also run the same car at Bristol (short track). This would allow smaller teams that don't have the resources to build 20 different cars in a season better able to compete with the larger better funded teams.

They also made the car larger, thus creating more drag and slowing the cars down some. NASCAR felt that the cars were getting too fast even on the shorter tracks.

Here is a list of races for 2007 that will be using or used the COT:

2007 races with the COT

Date Track
March 25 Bristol
April 1 Martinsville
April 21 Phoenix
May 5 Richmond
May 12 Darlington
June 3 Dover
June 24 Sonoma
July 1 New Hampshire
Aug. 12 Watkins Glen
Aug. 25 Bristol
Sept. 8 Richmond
Sept. 16 New Hampshire *
Sept. 23 Dover *
Oct. 7 Talladega *
Oct. 21 Martinsville *
Nov. 11 Phoenix *

*Denots races in the Chase.

Starting in 2008 all races will be with the new car.

The origional plan was that they were going to phase it in over the 2007 and 2008 seasons. But the teams wanted to start running the COT for the full season ASAP (it is quite expensive to have to build 2 different types of cars), so NASCAR nixed the additional phase in for 2008 and all races starting in 2008 will be with this new template.
