Meh, it's an improvement, but I'd like to see them do away with 5 points for leading a lap. To me, you should get something for leading the most laps, but not for leading just one. Woohoo, they lead one lap out of how many? I'm tired of seeing teammates pull over to let the other get 5 points. Plus, getting half of the extra points someone has for winning a race, when all you did was maybe stay out for a lap, makes no sense to me.
I do like that they are giving points to drivers that have won races. I hope it cuts down on the comments from drivers, "we just have to be consistent". "Just" is the main word in that statement that stands out to me, and it's irritating.
I wonder why they decided on 12 instead of another number.
Why is 5 points for leading a lap such a problem? To me its one of the best rules NASCAR has. Yes, teammates pull over to let them lead a lap, but that's called TEAMWORK, that's why they are called teammates lol. I think it's just fine. Now I agree, they should award more points for leading the most laps, I would say 10.

I like it I think its actually simpler. Top twelve after race 26 are in the Chase everyone starts over at 5000 points plus a 10 point bonus for each win during the first 26 races. Think about it chances are several will have the same amount of wins and unless someone has a real blowout year ( like 11 wins or something ) they will all start the final 10 races Real close in points! ( possibly several ties )
I,m also glad they got rid of the 11th places sorry your a loser bonus and remember only Ten go to NY so even the teams running in the back have to run hard ( before if you were in the top ten you couldnt fall out so you were gauranteed a trip to NY ) to get there.
I like the 5 extra points for winning too, now theres no way the second place car can get the same amount of points as the winner
