Not sure if anybody knows this but, if there is car in a similar situation to the 8 and 21 car, where it has mutliple drivers, but it is in the Top 12 in Owner's Points at the end of the Richmond Race, is it in the "Chase for the Owner's Cup"? In other words, would who ever's driving that car for the chase week, be highlighted in yellow?
I know as fans we follow the drivers.... the situation with the 8 involves two guys driving the same car. the car is the important piece in that, therefore the car owner is the important one there. Even though AJ Almendinger is driving the whole season, he will be in cars of three different owners... we had a rainout on qualifying the starting is placed on Owner points. Many things are based on owner points, I think I understand your question, but it is not really an issue this year unless maybe tony walks away from the 20 car before the end of the year to start work on his new team... highly unlikely. I doubt they would highlight that. We sorta had a race for the owners points a few times in the n'wide series, three guys drove the 29 and were a serious contender to win the owners points but not the drivers points... not much got said about that. if the 29 had won the owners points and edwards won the driver points it would have been interesting to see how the seated the champions table at the banquet! TV follows the drivers too, be real confusing to follow the owners stuff unless you were an owner...

Entry into the Race for The Chase is based on Driver Points.
Owners points are a secondary system only used by NASCAR to set starting positions in case qualifying is rained out and for the first 5 races of the year to set the top 35. The owners points are also very important for multiple programs ran during the year which pay bonuses/extra dollars. The drivers points also have special programs based on points. I,m sure you've seen where one car finished behind another car in a race yet made less money, these programs are the reason for that.
To my knowledge it's never become an issue in Cup raceing? But has had an impact on Busch/Nationwide series several times.

I just read what I typed and now I,m confused LOL. I,ll find something to help clarify the answer to the question, I hope?
LOL. I asked Jayski, and well here's the message I asked him, and the answer I received:
Me:
If a car is in the Top 12 in Owner's Points at the end of the "regular
season", but not it's driver (situations with multiple drivers in one
car like the 8 and 21), is the car in the chase with the other 12?
Jayski:
yep
I guess we know that there can be more than 12 "cars" in the chase now. I think that would be cool, if a situation similar to the 8 and 21 cars allowed a 13th car in the chase, via owner's points. Just to see how that would play out on TV.
Hmmmm that is interesting. I was thinking along the lines of a driver being injured or otherwise unable to start or compete in one or two races during the regular season and the effect a sub-driver would have.
I,ve looked around some and really have found nothing to help clarify the situation your refering to where you would have multiply drivers entered but I,m still thinking about it.
