Just wondering if anyone has heard if that idea died off or not?
Last I heard was they were talking about putting the track
near Everett.
Thanks in advance!
Hey zoso, I personally have not heard anything about this since it first was talked about. We have 2 members who are located up in that part of the country with you and maybe they have heard something.
Smoke and Wampinrock, y'all have any info on this?
Smoke mentioned Wampinrock, and I thought it was a race track
I'm dumb!
I googled WA state Nascar at work, but only found old news storys.
If its not going to happen, I'll just have to visit some of the existing tracks!
One of my goals after I graduate from state business is to get a camper or Class C, and do a tour of the NASCAR circuit. Also like to attend some ALMS
races since I have such a fondness for Corvettes.
How was your day?
It sounds like you have a plan there zoso! It would be so cool to travel the race circuit, I think that would be every one's dream to do. I truly hope that you can make it a reality!
My days are always great, I wouldn't have it any other way!
NASCAR should go to CANADA!!!!!!! FORGET HOCKY, canada would be a great place for nascar. F1 and other racein is in canada and i think nascar should go there.
There has been talk for the last 2 years about a track in Washington state - as far as I know it isn't a done deal. It would be big news around here if it was actually going to happen. One site went as far as the county voting on it but I think it got voted down.
Nothing's been mentioned for a few months about this. I will believe it when ground is broken, otherwise I don't pay too much attention to the rumors!
Hey Rosanna, I saw this article today and thought about you! Looks like there just might be some racing in the Northwest in a couple of years! Whoo-Hoo!!!
Lt. Governor Backs Washington Track
Lt. Gov. Brad Owen, a popular Democrat who has made economic development his central issue, says he will champion a $368 million NASCAR racetrack, probably on the Kitsap Peninsula west of Seattle.
The price tag has risen $23 million since last year, but the developers have also agreed to pick up a larger share of the total cost and to absorb any cost overruns.
Owen, who represented the Bremerton-Shelton area in the state Legislature before moving to the lieutenant governor's office, said Thursday that he and Rep. Geoff Simpson, D-Covington, will lead the charge for legislation to authorize the speedway.
The draft plan doesn't specify a site, but Florida-based Great Western Sports has been working with local officials on a site near the Bremerton National Airport. The project would include seats for 83,500 fans.
"This track should be built," Owen said in a statement. "It's important to the state's economy and would provide thousands of local jobs. A NASCAR track would be like bringing two Super Bowls to the state of Washington every year."
He said the bill would authorize a public speedway authority to oversee development and financing. The sponsors would invest at least $180 million of the total cost and absorb cost overruns. The state's share would be covered by bond sales repaid by sales taxes and admission taxes generated by the facility.
Owen said the plan wouldn't create new taxes for the general public and wouldn't affect the state's bond-debt capacity. Backers estimate the project would boost the state economy by nearly $4 billion over 30 years, creating construction jobs for 5,600 people, Owen said.(seattlepi.nwsource.com)

Petty, Waltrip talk with Washington state lawmakers about track plan

The Associated Press
OLYMPIA, Wash. — Former NASCAR stars Richard Petty and Darrell Waltrip and current driver Greg Biffle are tying to persuade state lawmakers to support a $368 million race track proposed for Washington state.
"I'm ready to race," Petty said Wednesday as he met with supporters before going to a Washington State Labor Council function.
"There's been rumors of racing here about my whole career," said Biffle, a Vancouver, Wash., native. "But I think it's getting pretty close to happening."
There are pending bills, supported by Lt. Gov. Brad Owen, which would bring an 83,500-seat track to the state.
The proposals have left many lawmakers unimpressed, and powerful House Speaker Frank Chopp, D-Seattle, said Wednesday that he wasn't awed by the star power.
When asked about Petty coming to town, Chopp said, "He's not a member of the House, last time I checked."
One of the biggest issues for many lawmakers is the proposed location near the Bremerton National Airport in Kitsap County. Gov. Chris Gregoire has suggested that the project be moved to Lewis County near Interstate 5, about 90 minutes south of Seattle. That county lost about 600 jobs last year after TransAlta Corp. shut down a coal mine in Centralia.
International Speedway Corp. vice president Grant Lynch said earlier this week that he was thinking about looking at land in Lewis County, but that the economic model the company has proposed would probably have to change.
The company's proposal calls for taxpayers to pay for about half of the facility, with ISC contributing $180 million. The company says it would pay for any cost overruns on the project. The state share would be paid through bonds. The race-track group contends the cost of the bonds would be more than covered by the sales taxes paid by out-of-state race fans.
