BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Nextel Cup driver and team owner Michael Waltrip has been relieved of his duties as co-host of the Speed Channel show "Tradin' Paint," network officials confirmed Friday.
Waltrip will remain on Speed's show "Inside Nextel Cup" and will continue to work in the broadcast booth for Speed Channel's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series broadcasts.
Asked for a reason for Waltrip's departure, Speed spokesman Erik Arneson said the network would not elaborate on internal personnel matters.
Speed expects to try out a different drivers on the show during the next few weeks, Arneson said.
The show is a weekly discussion program which is broadcast from each week's location of the Cup race. It has been hosted by Waltrip and John Roberts since its inception last season and has showcased Waltrip debating NASCAR issues with another media member guest.

Wow, I do wonder what is up with Mikey! Like I said elsewhere here, I was so surprised that last weekend at the Atlanta Motorspeedway the crowd actually cheered when it was announced that MW did not qualify for the race!
Do y'all think that all of this is still fallout from the cheating at Daytona?? Makes me wonder...

I think some of it stems from him leaving DEI... he and Jr did not have a lot of luv there at the end... think Mikey might have overstepped a bit... jr fans are probably loving seeing him flounder... and anti toyota fans too!
cannot talk about trading paint when ya ain't out there doing It!

Yes, I agree with your observations there bigE. I know his attitude seemed to change when he left DEI, and then he seemed to mellow back out.
And how right you are, you can't talk tradin' paint when you ain't! Too bad for Mikey, I do feel bad for him. I know after Daytona I was reading a lot of blogs saying not too flattering things about him and just wondered if maybe that was a factor.
It really was shocking to me to hear so many cheer at the track at the news that he didn't qualify at Atlanta. To me that makes no sense, kinda like kicking a man when he is down. But I have never been on to cheer for anyone's hardships.

I believe Michael is a great driver and maybe now he can do what has to be done, there's time for talking but let's get out there and get into the race as I know he can Go Mikey I believe in you.
Ummm, I am one of those fans who stand up and sing...."hey hey hey good bye" when he fails to Q. It certainly does not break my heart that he will no longer be on tradin' paint, less for me to have to fast forward through.
