Points for pole

Do you think NASCAR should award points to the pole-sitter?

I think that there should be some sort of more tangible reward for work done in friday qualifying.

Yes I think points for qualifying positions would be a good idea, maybe 5 down to 1 for the top 5 or something.

Do they get anything else from qualifying apart from the starting position?

Getting the pole almost always ends up in getting the 5 bonus points for leading a lap. So would it really be necessary?

No, i think there's simply no reason to give anyone points for taking the pole. It's enough of a gift as it is and you get a very good chance of leading a lap, and qualifying trim has not alot to do with the "race quality" of your car, so I don't think points should be won in that arena, know what I mean?

Yes very true, a qualifying lap is A LOT different than a race lap.

You gotta wonder what the point is qualifying in a trim that you won't race in?

Well they build a car that will run fast alone on the track. For the race they have to incorporate differences in temperatures, downforce, "bump drafting", and a lot more. Without having to worry about that stuff they can make a car that'll run the best line alone, just for a chance to start at the front.

Atleast that's my theory.

No, no points for the pole sitter. There are so many things that could happen to make a good qualifying run it takes a bit of the challenge out of it. The drivers already have a seat in the shootout anyway. So it seems they get something pretty good anyhow.

Yes they also get the first pick at their pit road spot, which can really be a big factor at a lot of tracks!!
