Question About Sundays Race

Why didnt they throw the red flag on the last lap when they had the massive wreck?

Please excuse me. Im new to nascar.

that is a complicated question... but they already threw the red with less than 10 to go... nascar determines when is too late to do this and give us a quality race to the fininsh... when they restart with less than 3 to go.. they have one attempt... first lap they get the green, next the white, then checkered..this allows for extended clean up for big wrecks and oil spills.. give the racers a chance to finish under green... many times though it bunches everybody up and then gives us another, even bigger wreck... it was a policy used in the truck series.. worked out for less yellow flag finnishes... better for ratings and for fans, or for nascar tv ratings...

I agree with BigE, beside everyone was already in the wreck that was going to be in it.
As far as this whole last lap yellow flag/red flag deal goes No Race Driver lifts on the last lap heading to the Checker flag even if the yellow does come out.

I thought Sundays race was awesome, and the finish made it that much better. The question that was brought up soon after the race was should NASCAR have thrown the yellow and if so, when. I know that they presented the yellow with the checker but did you see everyone still racing the the line? Did you you Gililand cut across the grass on to the banking right in front of another racer? It is also kind of odd that some drivers that were in the wreck finished worst than where they were when they threw the yellow(Bowyer). He was upside down moving forward but drivers like Said and R. Gordon ended up ahead of him. Very strange situation. Did they really throw the caution with the checker? I never saw it. If you listened to Biffle on Inside Nextel Cup on Monday night, he said his spotter told him the caution never came out, so he put it in reverse across the grass, avoiding Bowyer, to cross the line.
There is controversy after every race, this just kicks off another exciting and debatable season.

The reason the finishing positions dont appear to be the same as where the cars were on the track when the Yellow Came Out is because when a yellow comes out scoring for each car goes back to the last scoring strip. There are electronic scoring strips inbedded in the track used for that purpose. No one except NASCAR scoring knows exactly where there located, how many there are or haow far apart they are.
Kinda Screws the Whole " THEY DID/DIDNT THROW THE YELLOW BECAUSE THEY WANTED ( insert drivers name here ) TO WIN/LOSE conspiriousy theory doesent it
Remember its not who was in the lead when the yellow comes out, Its who was in the lead when they crossed the last scoring strip BEFORE the yellow came out!

I get the whole scoring strip deal, it just seemed that some drivers got screwed ond some got awarded. Oh well, it happens.
