Race Back To The Line

I don't know about you, but I think the old NASCAR in old times is fading away with all these new rules, including taking away racing back to the line when the yellow comes out. I think it takes away the interest to new fans.

I miss the race back to the line too. Although, I think the worst rule is double file restarts after a caution. If you have a car that has run well enough to get to the 15th spot on the lead lap, they can restart in the 30th position and have to work thier way through 15 lapped cars. I really think it hurts the drivers.

Example: Truex Jr. has fairly consistanly run in the top 15 this year. It is almost impossible to move up into the top ten towards the end of the race when half of the field may be a lap down. You have to pass 10 cars to gain five spots and get to the top ten. Many of the tracks are a single groove and that makes passing that many cars a REAL challenge. Especially when you see two lapped cars that were wrecked running side by side and blocking the speedway.

At the begining of a race it is not that big of a deal to see a car come from the back, because they don't have many cars a lap down. So if you pass five cars you gain five positions.

I understand the concept of not wanting people getting hurt trying to race back to the line but really how many accidents were there when the lucky dog rule was not in place? I think that with the addition of the "car of tomorrow" it should bring back a bit of the driver skill factor to the race along with safer conditions inside the car. Maybe they should do away with the lucky dog rule at the short tracks.

With all the technology out there today I find it amazing that they (NASCAR) can't do something better on restatrts. I agree that the double line restarts are disadventageous to those on the lead lap but at the same time I find the race back to the yellow a real safety issue and the lucky dog scenereio is a joke. When Busch got back an insane number of laps recently I think that proved my point. It was nothing he really earned it was just given to him due to his place in line at that time. With all the electronic monitoring, NASCAR really does know where eberyone is at any given point. When the yellow comes out they can just refer to the data and place everyone in the proper position and preferably in a single line.

I know the lucky dog is for safety reasons but I me too, I miss them racing back to the yellow too!

Someone spends 5 laps in the garage, gets all 5 laps back because no one else was a lap down. Doesn't earn a single lap back on the track and finishes in the top 10. That sucked. What about the guys who were out there all the laps and didn't spend 5 laps in the garage? Life is just so unfair sometimes.
I wish Nascar would fix this somehow.

What if they had a caution in the first 5 laps? There is no way that they could line up 40+ cars in a single line on that small little track. They used to only allow 32 - 35 cars in a race at Bristol. If you have a better car, than you will be able to get around a lapped car eventually. It is frustrating on tracks like Bristol or Martinsville, but it makes good racing.
