Ok, I am surprised this isn't posted here somewhere, but does everyone here think that the suspensions that were handed out this week were enough. To take it one step farther, do you think the suspension from last years Daytona 500 was harsh enough for the "crime"?
Personally I say no. IMO, Waltrip should not be allowed to race in the 500, and the suspensions for Khane and Kenseth are not steep enough if the stuff that was found can be found to be intentional violations. And for last years race I think the violation by Johnson should have prevented him from being in the 500.
Before you tell me I'm wrong, hear me out. As a driver that is about to get into that car and risk my life on the track I think I would want to know everything that was done to my car, period. Anything that you put on the car to change the shape of the back window to change the shape of it should be blatently obvious to even a driver who knows nothing about cars, but Johnson didn't tell NASCAR about it, they had to find it.
Waltrip should have been able to tell that he had more power than he had before. Why didn't he go to NASCAR and say, "Hey, somethings not right here" but he didn't. He shouldn't be allowed to race.
Khane and Kenseth are a slightly different story, since they say that it was a vibration that caused the cap to come off. If that's the case, where is the cap? Did it fall out of the engine compartment? If it did, why didn't all the spotters that are paid to spot debris on the track see it? If it did come off, was it intentionally set to come off? If NASCAR says yes, then both of them should be out.
Stiffer penalties will make crews and owners think twice about turning the Speedweeks into a circus. Stop suspending the crew chief, suspend the whole team. Make them fear getting caught. Taking a 50 point hit for a minor infraction, or a 100 point hit for a major violation like Waltrip's or Johnson's is crap. Loss of points and a loss of the race...
And I am not saying list them as 43rd or anything like that. I am saying list them as did not compete. 0 points.
Ok, tell me what you think
