I don't see why the labor unions are shooting themselves in the foot...

by running this ad, they are telling people to NOT buy tires from the company they work for. SO when Goodyear goes down the tubes because they're not selling any tires, what is the union going to complain about when they lose jobs because Goodyear goes bankrupt.

I just don't get it...

The whole point of the ad is that tires made by inexperienced workers is unsafe. So when the strike ends, and the people who have been doing it for 10, 20, 30 years, the tires will be safe again.

I know...I just don't see how this could bode well for them in the long-run, though, because what happens if those people that switch to Firestone or Micheline never come back to Goodyear. Than the union loses more jobs because the company itself is suffering from the ad they produced.

Now, please understand that I'm not saying that unsafe tires should be sold...just saying that they are prolly hurting themselves more than anything else.

you are sooo right... I work for firestone.. remember those bad tires that were involved with the ford explorer rollover accidents... most of those codes on the tires had reflected badly on firestone... many were made during the time when firestone was on strike, made by management and replacement workers.. but it was to ford specifications... so they were to blame also... there is much more to it than I can say... the repercussions are huge...and won't come out til the tires made by inexperienced workers finally get into circulation... millions of tires that are not safe could be on the road... maybe not on your car, but what about the guy next to you? if he blows a tire and loses control, do you want him plowing into the passenger side of your minivan... where your child is seated? neither do they... it is a huge concern, for everyone... think about it, how many people will have to die before a money hungry company is forced into a recall?... just a thought....

Its normal look what the UAW is doing ( maybe I should say Has Done ) to itself GM and Ford. I personaly think there was a time for labor unions but that time has passed.

Goodyear signs 5-year extension with NASCAR

Goodyear signs 5-year extension with NASCAR

February 3, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has reached a five-year contract extension with NASCAR to remain its exclusive tire provider through 2012.

The extension was announced Saturday night at Goodyear's annual dealer conference.

Goodyear has supplied tires to NASCAR since the 1950s, and has been the sole provider since 1994 when Hoosier pulled out.

``Nothing says racing like NASCAR, and Goodyear has been recognized as the longest-running sponsor of the sport,'' said Jon Rich, president of Goodyear's North American Tire business. ``We plan to have our Eagle tires in the winner's circle for another 50 years.''

You're so right flflash. Unions have outlived their usefulnes.
Last year the company I work for rejected having the CAW represent us.
They have already started to campaign us again. You would think they would just give up.

A couple of years ago, another place I worked at voted in the CAW, 3 months later we were unemployed as the company packed up and moved to the states, Yet the union never helped to try to save our jobs or help us find other work like they promise.

(Also sorry for the hijack )
