JR Motorsports announced that the U.S. Navy has re-signed with the team to field the No. 88 Navy Accelerate Your Life Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS in the NASCAR Nationwide Series with driver Brad Keselowski through 2008. The team also unveiled a new "Dress White" paint scheme for the Navy Chevrolet.
JR Motorsports first joined forces with the U.S. Navy in 2005, fielding the No. 88 Navy Chevrolet in the season-ending race at Homestead-Miami Speedway in preparation for the 2006 season. In 70 races together the JRM Navy team has scored three top fives, 16 top 10s and 35 top-20 finishes.
Keselowski, 23, was recruited to join the Navy team midway through the 2007 season. In 13 starts in the No. 88 Navy Chevrolet he has accumulated five top 10s and eight top-15 finishes.
Keselowski has already embarked upon the Navy's "sailorization" program in preparation for his tour of duty with the team. Last week he spent a day at Naval Medical Center San Diego touring the facility and meeting with some of the Navy's Wounded Warriors. In addition to testing during the "off season," Keselowski will continue to expand his knowledge of the Navy through additional trips planned to various naval installations.
For the 2008 season the No. 88 Navy Chevrolet will sport a special "Dress White" paint scheme. Modeled after the Navy's summer uniforms, the car will be white with flat black Navy logos on the hood and quarter panels. The new scheme will make its debut at Daytona International Speedway in February.

Richard Childress Racing (RCR) has signed two-time NASCAR champion Bobby Labonte to a part-time schedule driving its No. 21 Chevrolet in the 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series. The 2000 NASCAR Cup Series champion, 1991 NASCAR Nationwide Series champion and 2001 IROC champion will compete in 15 races next season for the 11-time NASCAR championship-winning organization. The Corpus Christi, Texas, native made his Nationwide Series debut in September 1982 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway where he qualified 15th and finished 26th driving a car owned by his father, Bob Labonte. He has 197 starts in NASCAR’s junior series, including three full seasons from 1990 to 1992, and has earned 10 wins, 10 poles, 49 top-five and 98 top-10 finishes.
Labonte started ninth and finished 11th in April 2004 when he drove RCR’s Nationwide Series No. 29 ESGR/Army National Guard/Army Reserve Chevrolet at Texas Motor Speedway. He competed in 19 series races in 2007 for Kevin Harvick Incorporated, earned one win (Talladega Superspeedway in April) and three top-10 finishes.
“I’m really looking forward to driving for Richard (Childress) and the No. 21 team in the Nationwide Series next year,” said Labonte. “I had a great time in the one race I did for them in 2004 so I’m excited about running 15 races with a team that has won a lot of races and a couple of championships. RCR’s Nationwide Series program has been at the top for years and I hope I can help keep it there.”
RCR’s No. 21 team earned six victories in 2007 with driver Kevin Harvick and has earned two of the organization’s four NASCAR Nationwide Series championships. Harvick and Johnny Sauter shared driving duties and won NASCAR’s first owner-only championship in 2004 and Harvick won the overall championship in 2006. Securing sponsorship for the program is ongoing.
“I’ve watched Bobby’s career since he was a rookie in the Cup Series in 1991,” said Richard Childress, president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. “He’s a champion in every sense of the word and, with crew chief Shane Wilson and his championship-winning team, we know they will continue the No. 21 team’s winning legacy. We’re working on getting sponsorship all lined up but all of us at RCR are honored to have Bobby driving the No. 21 Chevrolet next season.”

Mike Wallace joins Germain team, hopes to make a run at Nationwide Series title
By JIM UTTER
The Charlotte Observer
NASCAR veteran Mike Wallace is hoping a move to Germain Racing will help fuel a championship run in what will be known as the Nationwide Series next season.
Wallace spent the past year with owner James Finch and finished a career-best 11th in the series standings.
He and sponsor GEICO will move to Germain's No. 7 Toyotas next season, Germain's first fielding a full-time entry in the series. Germain won the 2006 Craftsman Truck Series championship with driver Todd Bodine.
"I’ve raced with Mike Hillman (Germain's team manager) in the past and we have a mutual respect for one another. We are both no-nonsense, hard-nosed racers and we understand and respect one another,” said Wallace.
Said Hillman: "We had the opportunity to put Mike Wallace in a Toyota Tundra last season. He really worked well with the team, drove a very strong race and showed everyone that he will be a very competitive racer for us."
Germain earned two top-10 finishes in five races in the Busch Series in 2007. In the Truck Series, Germain has won two or more races each year for a total of 13 wins.

I thought Nationwide was kicking GEICO out of the sport, but I guess that's changed.

It would figure that they would want to be the only insurance company as a sponser in the series that they just bought. Afterall, Nextel sure put up a fight to keep AT&T out of the Cup when Cingular was bought out by them. Alltel will lose it's "grandfather clause" in '08 or '09. Maybe Nationwide has had 2nd thoughts about letting another insurance company in the sport, or it could be that the lawyers came up with a "grandfather clause" for this series like Nextel did for the other wireless carriers when they bought the Cup.
I sure do wish the focus was more on racin' than big business. I know...dream on mrs!!!

Two-time Nextel Cup champion Jimmie Johnson will drive at least three races next season in what will be known as the Nationwide Series, Hendrick Motorsports confirmed on Wednesday.
Johnson will drive the No. 5 Chevrolet in both Nationwide races at Lowe's Motor Speedway and the Aug. 30 race at California Speedway. Johnson has driven three races annually in the series the past two seasons.
"We have races in this season a few times over the last few years and performed pretty well. It's a fun series to driver in," Johnson said. "I want to have fun, but I would like to get a few more victories there."
In 87 career races, Johnson has one victory in the series, coming at Chicagoland Speedway in the 2001 season.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GoDaddy.com is announcing their debut into NASCAR – joining Hendrick Motorsports in a sponsorship deal. Go Daddy’s first NASCAR sponsorship teams NASCAR’s most popular driver, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., with the sport's number one racing team and the world’s largest domain name registrar.
The sponsorship deal makes Go Daddy the primary sponsor for the No. 5 NASCAR Nationwide Series Chevrolets for six events in 2008 featuring Earnhardt, along with Mark Martin and Ron Fellows. Go Daddy will also serve as an associate-level partner for the No. 5 cars all season.
In 2008, the No. 5 Chevrolets will be fielded full-time by JR Motorsports in partnership with Hendrick Motorsports. The two organizations officially combined NASCAR Nationwide Series operations following the conclusion of the 2007 racing schedule.
Two-time Nationwide Series champion Earnhardt will be the first driver racing the No. 5 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet. Not only is Earnhardt the first to drive the black, green and orange car, he also designed it for Go Daddy.
“I’m very proud of this car and I’m looking forward to driving it and representing GoDaddy.com in select Nationwide Series races this year,” Earnhardt said. “It’s racy and edgy. It’s a sharp-looking car and we are going to have some fun driving it this year.”
Earnhardt, Jr., is set to drive the Go Daddy Car April 5 at Texas Motor Speedway. Mark Martin, the all-time leader in Nationwide victories, is the second driver to pilot the Go Daddy No. 5 car. Canadian road racing ace Ron Fellows is the third to drive the GoDaddy.com sponsored car.
“We are excited to join Hendrick Motorsports and JR Motorsports for our first NASCAR sponsorship,” said Bob Parsons, CEO and Founder of GoDaddy.com. “It’s a natural fit. These guys are all about winning and being the best – that’s exactly what GoDaddy.com is about!”
With 72 Nationwide victories between them, Earnhardt (22 wins), Martin (47 wins) and Fellows (three road-course wins) comprise a formidable lineup for NASCAR team sponsor GoDaddy.com.
“We’re excited to welcome GoDaddy.com to our Nationwide Series effort,” said Marshall Carlson, general manager of Hendrick Motorsports. “With a driver lineup of this caliber, we have a great opportunity to take our new partner to victory lane in 2008. It’s shaping up to be an exciting season with GoDaddy.com, JR Motorsports and the No. 5 Chevrolets.”
Go Daddy’s first auto racing sponsorship was with Indy Racing’s Danica Patrick. Indy’s most popular driver became a “Go Daddy Girl” in December 2006. She appeared in last year’s Go Daddy Super Bowl commercial and will wear the Go Daddy logo again next season.
Go Daddy is a world leading Internet company that helps individuals and businesses build their online presence. The company, often called an “Internet titan,” has drawn publicity for its racy and effective Super Bowl advertising campaigns, but is all business when it comes to helping customers succeed online.
