KFC Corp. has dropped out of the race to be the next sponsor of what is now NASCAR's Busch Series, a spokeswoman has told The Louisville (Ky.) Courier-Journal.
The newspaper reports today that the Louisville-based fast-food chain dropped out of the race Wednesday, according to spokeswoman Laurie Schalow.
The story says she called NASCAR a "great fit" but said the title sponsorship didn't line up with the KFC's spending priorities.
Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Journal this week identified KFC and Subway sandwich chain as the leading contenders for the title sponsorship, which was said to cost as much as $30 million a year.
