Congrats to Reed! This puts him in the Bud Shootout next year. Lets just hope that JPM doesn't bump him on the 1st lap.

Sorenson Earns First Career Cup Pole, Montoya Second For All-Ganassi Indy Front Row
On the heels of a record-breaking month where Chip Ganassi Racing Teams won six races across four series, NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series driver Reed Sorenson piloted his No. 41 Target Dodge to his first career pole today for the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Sorenson, coming off a win in the Busch Series last weekend at Gateway, will lead the field alongside teammate Juan Pablo Montoya in the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge for the 14th running of the Brickyard 400. The one-two start is the first for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) in NASCAR competition.

“To get your first pole anywhere is pretty special, but to win it at the Brickyard is extra special,” said Sorenson. “A Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates front row for one of the biggest races of the year is pretty neat and it’s a tribute to everyone that works on these cars. This is a huge momentum builder for tomorrow’s race and hopefully all three teams can capitalize on the great starting positions. I’m proud to be able to do this for Target and for the entire organization and I’m really looking forward to tomorrow’s race.”

CGRFS, with Sorenson’s crew chief Jimmy Elledge, also captured the Brickyard pole in 2004 in the same chassis that earned Sorenson the starting spot today.

Montoya, the outside polesitter, won the 2000 Indianapolis 500 in his first and only attempt, and will become the first driver to start the Indianapolis 500, the United States Grand Prix and the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Sunday. In his Indy 500 victory, Montoya also began the race from the second starting position.

Teammate David Stremme will start 12th in the No. 40 Target Dodge as CGRFS seeks its first victory in the Brickyard 400
