“We made some improvements on the car during practice today, and I was pretty happy with it," Newman said. “I think we will end up with a good starting position, and I’m pretty sure the Alltel Dodge will have a better finishing position.
“I look forward to tomorrow night. It’s a track that we’ve done well at in the past. It’s short-track racing, so we enjoy coming here and enjoy racing.”

Ryan Newman, driver of the Penske Racing No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger, has one pole, five top-five and six top-10 finishes in nine NASCAR Cup Series starts at Darlington Raceway. His best finish was a second-place effort in the fall of 2002.
In NASCAR Nationwide Series competition at Darlington, Newman has two pole positions in four starts and a best finish of fourth (Sept. 1, 2001).
Newman and the No. 12 Alltel Dodge team were one of three NASCAR Cup Series teams who participated in a three-day Goodyear tire test at the freshly-paved Darlington Raceway in March.
Newman calls Darlington his favorite track. “It has always been my favorite track because you are always adjusting,” he says. “You adjust to the tires, the bumps, the character of the track, the fact that you are running right next to the wall is challenging. It's the most challenging track that we have and that is why I enjoy it the most.” And Newman’s stats reveal his love for the 1.366 mile egg-shaped track. In nine Cup starts, Newman has completed 98.5 percent of the laps at Darlington. He has an average starting position of 7.1 and an average finishing spot of 10.7.
Penske Racing is just two wins shy of reaching the milestone of 300 victories across a variety of racing series. Newman has claimed 24 of Penske Racing’s win total.
RYAN NEWMAN QUOTES ON:
DARLINGTON’S NEW SURFACE: “The track is great. It’s super smooth – the transitions are the same – it’s got a ton of grip. It’s really fast. We ran a 28.12 on the ‘controlled tire’ and that I think is three seconds faster than the old race pace in race trim – so it’s super fast. The track drives the same – other than the fact that you don’t slip the tire.”
RACING AT DARLINGTON: “Racing wise, I‘ve always said Darlington is not the perfect race track. To me, it’s my favorite race track to drive – but racing wise – going three and four wide – you’re not going to see it at Darlington. It’s going to be a very important track position race in the essence that if you’re out front – it’s going to be easier to stay out front because it’s difficult to pass there. It’s always been a give and take race track. It’s the give-and-take race track when it comes to passing. We’ll have to adjust our speed and how the cars handle there with this new pavement for sure.”
ROY MCCAULEY QUOTES ON:
DARLINGTON’S NEW SURFACE: “After being at Darlington for the test last month, I have to compliment the track administration there because they did a fantastic job of repaving the track. They had several million surface points to replicate what was there. The track is exactly like the old Darlington with the banking, with the grooves, with the lines. They left everything exactly how it was. The difference is there is a lot more grip.”
TESTING AT DARLINGTON: “The test that we did with Goodyear was very good. I feel like we provided Goodyear with a lot of information, and they had to make the decision with the information that we provided and decide what they were going to do for this race. I am pretty confident after our test that Goodyear has all the information they need to bring back the best tire possible. We’re looking forward to this weekend.”
CHASSIS NOTES

DARLINGTON, S.C. (May 9, 2008) - Ryan Newman, driver of the Penske Racing No.12 Alltel Dodge Charger, will start 32nd in the Dodge Challenger 500 at Darlington Raceway.
Newman posted a lap of 175.666 mph (27.994 seconds). Pole sitter Greg Biffle, driver of the No. 16 3M Ford, turned a lap of 179.442 mph (27.405 seconds).
"We were just too loose, so loose that I came close to hitting the wall," Newman said after qualifying. "The Alltel Dodge was good in practice. I was really happy with it, but we have put ourselves in a hole for tomorrow night's race.
"We'll just have to work our way up through the field, which I know we can do. We'll have our work cut out for us."
Newman has one win (Daytona), one pole and five top-10 finishes in the first 10 races of the 2008 season. He is currently 11th in the NASCAR Cup points standings. At Darlington Raceway, Newman has five top-five and six top-10 finishes in nine starts. Last spring, Newman came from a 29th-place starting position to finish fourth.

Ryan Newman
No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger
Notes & Quotes
Ryan Newman, driver of the Penske Racing No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger, has one win (2002), one pole (2005), three top-five and four top-10 finishes in seven NASCAR All-Star races. Newman also finished as the runner-up in the 2004 All-Star race.
Newman earned his position in the million-dollar 24th annual NASCAR All-Star Race via his victory in the 50th Running of the Daytona 500 in February 2008.
In 2002, Newman became only the second rookie in history to win the NASCAR All-Star race. After transferring from the qualifying race and starting 27th, Newman charged to the front and beat Dale Earnhardt Jr. to the checkered flag by a mere .158-second margin.
The No. 12 Alltel pit crew is set to defend their title in the NASCAR Pit Crew Challenge on Thursday, May 15 at 7 p.m. EDT at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, N.C. Last year, the Alltel pit crew won the overall title as the fastest pit crew in the challenge when they edged the No. 43 team by .33 seconds to grab the championship and the $70,300 prize. Despite being assessed a five second penalty in the first round for excessive fuel spillage, the Alltel Dodge team was flawless for the remainder of the competition. In each of the final four rounds, the No. 12 team posted the top time. The team also made the quarterfinal round in 2006 and the semifinal round in 2005. "This competition is a big deal for the teams," said Trent Cherry, the team's rear tire carrier and pit crew coach. "It's bragging rights for one team for the rest of the year. We've been working hard this season, and we want to win again."
RYAN NEWMAN QUOTES ON:
THE ALL-STAR RACE: "This is always a very big race, and we try to have a lot of fun with it. The race pays a lot of money, but it's also a little more than that-it's about bragging rights, too. Even though there aren't points on the line on Saturday night, we it's just like any other race in that we want to win. There's a little more strategy in the All-Star Race because of the different segments. So, we may take an extra risk here or there-but the key is to put yourself in the position to be the first car across the finish line. I expect the fans will get a good show on Saturday night. There's always beating and banging, fender rubbing and sparks flying at the All-Star race."
THE PIT CREW CHALLENGE: "I don't know if my guys are going to let me go to the pit crew challenge. They won last year and I wasn't there, so they think I might be bad luck for them. The pit crew competition is a cool deal. What the over-the-wall guys do on pit road is just as important as what I do on the track. I know the Alltel guys have been working really hard to defend their title this year-it is pretty important to have bragging rights-and I hope they can do it."
ROY MCCAULEY QUOTES ON:
THE ALL-STAR RACE: "It's a no-holds-barred street fight. That's the best way I can describe it. The All-Star Race is a lot of fun. You can be a little more aggressive with the way you set the car up and the strategy that you use during the four 25-lap segments. The All-Star Race isn't a test, but it allows you to try things for the 600 that you might not be brave enough to try at the 600. And you might actually find something that can help you in the race the following week. We had a good test at Charlotte last week, and we're looking forward to having fun this weekend."
THE PIT CREW CHALLENGE: "For the pit crew members, the NASCAR Pit Crew Challenge on Thursday night is their Daytona 500. It's there time to shine and be all-stars. It gives them the opportunity to showcase their abilities, and it's a good opportunity for me to see the competition we have on pit road."
CHASSIS NOTES

No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger
Coca-Cola 600 - Lowe's Motor Speedway
Notes & Quotes
For Immediate Release - May 20, 2008
Ryan Newman, driver of the Penske Racing No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger, has seven poles, three top-five and five top-10 finishes at Lowe's Motor Speedway in 14 NASCAR Cup Series starts. Newman's best finish at the 1.5-mile track was a second-place effort in the fall of 2003.
Newman finished sixth in the NASCAR All-Star race at Lowe's Motor Speedway last weekend.
Newman scored the first NASCAR Cup Series pole of his career at Lowe's Motor Speedway in the spring of 2001. The pole came in just his third Cup start, tying Mark Martin's record for earliest career pole. Newman currently has 43 career poles and is tied for 10th on NASCAR's all-time pole list with Buck Baker.
Newman's name is nearly synonymous with the pole position at Lowe's Motor Speedway. In 14 starts, Newman has taken the pole position seven times - including in both 2007 points races. He has started outside of the top-four only twice in his career.
Newman has two NASCAR Nationwide Starts at Lowe's Motor Speedway, both coming in 2005. Led by current crew chief Roy McCauley, Newman finished in third-place in the spring (May 28) and won in the fall (October 14).
Penske Racing is just one win shy of reaching the milestone of 300 victories across a variety of racing series since 1966. Newman has claimed 24 of Penske Racing's win total.
RYAN NEWMAN QUOTES ON:
QUALIFYING AT CHARLOTTE: "Winning poles is a goal that the Alltel team has every year. It's something we want to do, and being able to win the pole at Charlotte is a big deal. We want to be the fastest car on everyone's home turf. I don't know why I do so well at Charlotte. But qualifying well takes having a good team behind you, having the ability to hit your marks and being able to live on the edge for a couple of laps. Winning the pole gives our team that extra bit of momentum as we head into the race, and that's something we would like to have."
RACING AT CHARLOTTE: "This is a big race. It's a tough race because it is the longest race we have all year. But I like this race, and I look forward to it. We had a good test in Charlotte, and our intermediate program has really improved over the past year. I think the Alltel Dodge is going to be a really competitive car this weekend. We have had a lot of success at Charlotte winning poles, and we won a race in the Nationwide Series. Now, we want to transfer that success to the Cup race. I've been close to winning at Charlotte, and I've been leading in the closing laps and had something happen. We want to turn all that around this weekend."
ROY MCCAULEY QUOTES ON:
THE BENEFIT OF TESTING AND THE ALL-STAR RACE AT CHARLOTTE: "We definitely learned a lot over the past few days at Charlotte. The test was a good opportunity to evaluate race setups on the tire we are running. The test gave the drivers more time to get comfortable with running the COT car and it gave us crew chiefs more time to work on the race cars, so it was a welcome test and I think it might make the racing more competitive this weekend. The All-Star weekend was another help to us. We were able to learn about tire wear and learn which tire pressures were best for us. I think that any crew chief will tell you that this weekend gave them more notes and more ideas on what might be important during the Coca-Cola 600."
QUALIFYING AT CHARLOTTE: "Ryan has a history of being a strong qualifier, particularly at Charlotte. His record there is pretty incredible, and we are going to try our best to continue his dominance there. We saw this weekend how important track position was so winning the pole on Thursday would be a step in the right direction."
CHASSIS NOTES
PRS-555: The No. 12 Alltel Dodge for the Coca-Cola 600 is one of Penske Racing's second-generation COT cars. Although this weekend's race at Charlotte will be the car's first event, this No. 12 was tested at Darlington in March of this year.
PRS-558: The backup No. 12 Alltel Dodge is the same car that Newman drove to a fourth-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway earlier this year.
UPCOMING EVENTS
5/21: Daytona 500 champion Ryan Newman, along with longtime driver Kyle Petty, will be on hand to help unveil Thomas Kinkade's newest portrait, NASCAR® THUNDER: The 50th Running of the DAYTONA 500®, at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in Concord, N.C. at 7 p.m. EDT. Tickets to the event are $35 and all proceeds go to the Victory Junction Gang Camp.
5/23: The Penske Racing Fan Fest will be held at the Penske race shop in Mooresville, N.C. Newman will be on hand to sign autographs for the first 200 ticket holders from 9:30 to 11 a.m. ET. Penske teammates Kurt Busch and Sam Hornish Jr. will also be signing autographs at that time.

Newman posted a lap of 181.867 miles per hour (29.747 seconds). Kyle Busch, driver of the No. 18 M&M's Toyota, took the pole with a quick lap of 185.433 miles per hour (29.121 seconds).
"We had an ok car in practice - we were eighth pretty much all day - but we missed it tonight in qualifying," Newman said "We changed some things hoping that we would go faster, and we changed the wrong things.
"Hopefully, we'll have some good practices here on Saturday, and we'll have a good enough car that we can pass a lot of cars that we're starting behind on Sunday. It's a long race. We will have our work cut out for us."

Ryan Newman
No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger
Best Buy 400 - Dover International Speedway
Notes & Quotes
For Immediate Release - May 27, 2008
Ryan Newman, driver of the Penske Racing No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger, has three wins, four pole positions, six top-five and eight top-10 finishes in 12 NASCAR Cup Series starts at Dover International Speedway.
Newman swept both NASCAR Cup races in 2003 at Dover International Speedway. His most recent win at Dover came in the fall of 2004. Newman's average finishing position at the "Monster Mile" is 10th.
Last June at Dover, Newman scored the pole, led 135 laps and finished second in the first "Car of Tomorrow" (COT) race at the one-mile oval.
Newman has started outside of the top five only twice in 12 races at the "Monster Mile." In addition to four poles, Newman has started on the outside pole twice. His average starting position at the one-mile concrete oval is 7.2.
Newman has two NASCAR Nationwide Starts at Dover, and scored the pole both times (2001, 2005). In 2005, Newman and current Cup Series crew chief Roy McCauley had a dominant race car as they started on the pole, led 193 of 200 laps and won the race.
Penske Racing is just one win shy of reaching the milestone of 300 victories across a variety of racing series since 1966. Newman has claimed 24 of Penske Racing's win total.
RYAN NEWMAN QUOTES ON:
RACING AT DOVER: "Dover is one of my favorite race tracks. It's an awesome track to race as far as being able to pass cars. It's a blast to drive around Dover because of the speed and most importantly because of the banking. The fact that it's concrete doesn't hurt anything either because it makes the track more consistent, which is good for all teams. At Dover, the entry into the corners is the toughest part. If you don't get a good entry, you're not going to have a good middle or a good exit. It's a give and take race track, so it is a lot of fun for the drivers. We've done well at Dover with our Alltel Dodge in the past, and I don't expect anything different."
QUALIFYING AT DOVER: "This is a fun track to drive for me. In qualifying, you have to hang it out. It's concrete, so it's on the edge and it's not very forgiving. But it's a lot of fun, too. It's a track that doesn't change a whole lot with the weather, which is kind of nice so your qualifying draw doesn't have a huge effect on where you qualify."
ROY MCCAULEY QUOTES ON:
DOVER AS HIS HOME TRACK: "I consider Dover my home track, so I am always excited to go there. We have had a lot of success there as a company. Ryan has four wins there in Cup and one win there in Nationwide, and I can't even count the number of poles. I would like to win one for the team and for Alltel this weekend. There's a lot of home pride. It's about an hour and a half away from where I grew up. I know Ryan loves the track. We had a good car in Bristol this year, which is a little bit of a forerunner to Dover. So, we're looking forward to it." NOTE: McCauley hails from Davidsonville, Md. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in engineering.
RACING AT THE "MONSTER MILE": "Dover's a funny place. You show up there on Friday and there's no rubber on the track. You can be good on Friday and all of a sudden on Sunday once the track rubbers up you can be in a world of hurt if you're not careful. Dover's a thinking man's track from a driver's standpoint and a crew's standpoint."
CHASSIS NOTES
PRS-519: The No. 12 Alltel Dodge at Dover is the same car that Newman qualified 12th and drove to a 14th place finish at Atlanta in March. The car has also served as a backup car at several other races this season.
PRS-558: The backup No. 12 Alltel Dodge is the same car that Newman drove to a fourth-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway earlier this year. It was the backup at last weekend's Coca-Cola 600.
UPCOMING EVENTS
5/31: Ryan and Krissie Newman, along with their dog Mopar, will participate in the NASCAR Foundation Track Walk at Dover International Speedway at 6 p.m. EDT, immediately following the Nationwide Series race on Saturday. Fans have the opportunity to walk with the Newmans and help raise money for the Ryan Newman Foundation. The event fee is $30. For more information visit www.ryannewmanfoundation.org.
6/4: Newman is one of several drivers participating in the fourth annual Prelude to the Dream at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. The charity race benefits the Victory Junction Gang Camp. The race will be broadcast live on HBO Pay-Per-View at 7 p.m. EDT.

"We had a top-10 car in most of practice today," Newman said. "I would have liked to have qualified better than 11th, but we'll take it. We're going to turn our focus to long runs tomorrow and hopefully we can get this Alltel Dodge back in the top five.

Ryan Newman
No. 12 Kodak Dodge Charger
Pocono 500 - Pocono Raceway
Notes & Quotes
For Immediate Release - June 3, 2008
Ryan Newman, driver of the Penske Racing No. 12 Kodak Dodge Charger, has one win, two pole positions, five top-five and six top-10 finishes in 12 NASCAR Cup Series starts at Pocono Raceway.
Newman is currently 14th in the 2008 NASCAR Cup Series driver point standings, only 29 points out 12th place.
Pocono is the first of six races in which Kodak is the primary sponsor of the No. 12 Dodge Charger. Kodak also will serve as the primary sponsor for Newman's car at Chicagoland Speedway, Watkins Glen International, California Speedway, New Hampshire Motor Speedway and Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Last June at Pocono, Newman scored the pole, led 20 laps and finished second in a rain-shortened event at the 2.5-mile track.
Newman is one of nine drivers to win a race at Pocono Raceway from the pole position. In July 2003, Newman started on the pole, led 88 of 200 laps and won the Pennsylvania 500.
In 2000, Newman won the ARCA race at Pocono in only the second stock car start of his career.
Penske Racing scored its 300th victory since Roger Penske became a car owner in 1966 last weekend at The Milwaukee Mile. Driver Ryan Briscoe won the IndyCar Series event in the No. 6 Team Penske Dallara/Honda. Newman has claimed 24 of Penske Racing's win total.
RYAN NEWMAN QUOTES ON:
RACING AT POCONO: "I like Pocono a lot. It's a driver's race track. It has three independent corners. They are all different - they drive differently and you have to adapt. It's a place that I have always liked, and we have done well there for the most part. We had a couple of good runs there last season, and I would like to carry that over with the Kodak Dodge this weekend. Pocono is a fun track. It is one of the more difficult places to qualify, but we have done well in qualifying in the past. Turn one is pretty difficult. The Tunnel Turn is probably the hardest corner. It's a place that I look forward to, and I think that the team does, too."
ENJOYING POCONO FOR MORE THAN RACING: "I enjoy the race track and I enjoy the area. It has some great fishing spots. I actually went fishing in the morning last week when I was up there for the test. Krissie's family is up there, too, which is nice, so we look forward to getting to Pocono for a lot of reasons."
ROY MCCAULEY QUOTES ON:
RACING AT POCONO: "Pocono is a different type of track. It's not like any other place that we go. Turn 1 at Pocono is unique. It's pretty bumpy and it's a banked corner. The other corners are relatively flat. That's what makes Pocono unique. It's a unique track, and we always have a lot of fun with it. It's been a good track for the Penske organization and for Ryan, so we hope to continue that success in the Kodak Dodge this weekend."
THE SEASON SO FAR: "We have a great group of guys on this team. This team has the attitude and passion that it takes to win, and I see that each and every week. My motto is ‘never give up' - no matter what the circumstances, and that's the motto that this team lives by. We learned a lot at the test at Pocono, and we are going back there with the same goal that we have every week. Ryan had a couple of good runs at Pocono last year and we are hoping to duplicate that and get back in the top 12 in points."
